Don't know about Xanax, but interestingly when I first started Celexa and was experiencing side effects, I had one of the most horrible panic attacks I ever had. I really did think I was going to lose it while I was in the midst of that panic attack. But, for some reason I kept plugging away and stuck with it. But, I'm sure some meds work for some and not for others.

I tried different antidepressants and had terrible side effects with all of them.  They all made my anxiety much worst.  I didn't know what to do and hated taking meds.  I was also scared to get addicted of the Xanax so I tried not to take it.  I starting going to a new psychiatrist and he explained to me that most people with anxiety don't get addicted to Benzo's.  You may become dependent on them but that is like a lot of meds.  He told me I needed enough xanax to get into my system to shut my anxiety down and work on ways to deal with it so one day I can wean off the xanax.  I started Xanax XR a little over a year ago.  At first I took 1mg twice a day.  He told me the XR is suppose to work for 24 hours however for most it doesn't.  About 2 months ago I cut down to 1mg in the morning and .5mg at night.  He wants me to stay here for a few months and live my life before another cut which I will wait until after the holidays.  Exercise, meditation and massage has helped me a lot.  I am hoping to be able to get off the xanax Xr but don't want to rush it.  For me the Xanax XR was great. I had really no side effects.  Everyone is different and you need to decide what you want to do but sometimes you may need a little help from a med to allow you to learn others ways to cope.  Take Care, I hope you find something that helps you.
