I have suffered in the past with this. Deep cleanzing breaths, and try to relax through the panic breathing attack.
Healing is always on the other side of panic.

Lie down flat and stomach breathe.  Meaning your stomach should rise and fall, not your chest.  Focus on doing this.  Through the nose, out the mouth.  Just breathe slowly and relax.  Your panic attack, just like the others you have had, and the thousands I have had.......will always pass.

I've had breathing problems for 11 months now.  When it was at it's worst all I could do was lay back in a chair and listen to classical music and try to calm down.  I have GAD, no panic.  The breathing difficulty troubles me every single day.  Some days are better than others.  When the shortness of breath really gets bad, I try to put a pause in between exhalation and inhalation.  This increases CO2.  The reason we feel short of breath and/or that we are suffocating is because we are actually suffering from chronic hyperventilation.  I always get dizzy when breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth.  I meditate laying down on my bed and concentrating on breathing from my belly, thinking "nice" on the inhalation and "and slowwww" on the exhalation.

But I had a major break through when I finally got up the courage to take on a volunteer job.  When I'm at "work", I'm so distracted by everything going on, I feel almost normal.  I think it's beneficial to keep as busy as possible.

Exactly MSWhat....I too am a manual breather diva.  You have to stop thinking about breathing.  It sounds silly but your body will breath on its own.  Too much oxygen can be bad too.

Good job Ms.
