First Time
« on: March 13, 2008, 06:09:18 PM »
Its my first time here.
About a year ago I was diagnosed with GAD and depression.
Since then I have been taking medication on and off and found that the really helped me recover.
I have been off them for a while and have started to drift into my old ways.
I worry about everything you could imagine. Its starting to takes its toll on my life and relationship.
I've decided to start back again on my medication and this time stay on them for a decent amount of time.
I dont even know why Im really writing here - or what Im expecting in reply. I think its just nice to know that Im not the only one.

Im finding that my illness is putting alot of strain on my relationship. I dont want to lose my partner.
Just wondering how other people balance the two?

Hey Jules! Welcome! I'm relatively new here myself. I'm just exactly like you! Worry ALL the time (since I was a small child- got that from my mom....thanks mom). I also have been off and on meds for the past 15 years. am currently on lexapro...day 11. and have recently started therapy. I'm not in a relationship right now, so sorry I can't help you with that one. I know it must be hard! I love these boards because even though, yes, I knew I wasn't the only one with anxiety, it has been so comforting knowing that so many other people can relate to what I'm going through. You'll find everyone on these boards so supportive and I do mean everyone!!!!! Take care of yourself and feel free to chat anytime if you need to!!!!  laa

Hi Jules,
I wish you luck with your recovery.  I've been going thru a difficult time myself, and it does take a toll on my marriage.  My husband has a hard time understanding, but I just keep telling him, he doesn't have to always understand what I am feeling, I just need him to be supportive while I work my way thru this.

welcome to the forum.  :action-smiley-065: Yeah, i have come to realize that i need meds atleast for now to have a normal outlook on everything. Its very hard for me to except this b/c i was completely normal for 30 years? Anyway, I am struggling too with my husband because he does not understand why i feel like i do or what happened to his strong wife. :( I am seriously thinking about getting counseling for myself b/c he doesnt want to hear my problems/worries. I know he loves me but i am afraid that he may get really tired of whatever this anxiety/depressive illness i have. With all that being said..i guess i havent found a way yet to balance anything out, but i know that a person that doesnt have these problems cannot possibly understand. They think we should just snap out of it or stop acting that way when it obviously isnt that simple or none of us would be here. I wish you the best with your treatment and just to let you know...this site has been WAY helpful for me in just understanding myself and having support from all these people here. God bless!!!

hi and welcome,
i have been diagnosed with GAD and panic disorder for 15 years now and i just have to take it day by day.  somedays i need so much help, and others i am okay.  as for the relationship, my husband is with the ones above, he doesn't understand how i feel or why....so how can he possibly help me?  i guess it comes down to being with a very caring and patient partner, then you both can work together to set boundaries and figure things out!   :winking0008:
you'll find much support here...take care.

You're never alone with all of us here...we may be separated geographically but this "bond" will hold us all together as one.......
