How do you get a doctor to take you seriously about health concerns once you've been diagnosed with HA? My doctor knows about my HA and really doesn't take me very seriously anymore. I usually go just for my yearly physical and a few times for stomach problems. Well, since being diagnosed with skin cancer and being treated with that awful cream, I've been to see him 3 times in the last 6 months, and called twice about problems I was having. Now with my tongue issues and slurring and my horrid bulbar ALS fear, when I went to see him a few weeks ago, and I told him of my fears he rolled his eyes, told me to stick out my tongue, looked at it for a minute or so and told me I was fine and that ALS is hereditary, which I know is only 10% of the time. He completely brushed off my concerns and said most of it is anxiety and then told me to go back to the ENT because if my mouth was as dry as I was describing, then they need to look more closely at my salivary glands. I went to urgent care with parotitis a few months ago because I freaked out (probably the one time Dr. Google was correct in the diagnosis). The doctor there also brushed me off and told me he didn't think it was anything, since the swelling was down. It usually only swelled when I smelled, thought about or ate food. He made me feel like a freak but said he'd take blood and that would tell me if I had parotitis, but he highly doubted anything would show up. Well, the next day the urgent care doctor called and apologized, because he said I did indeed have parotitis, and a very bad case of it and put me on some really strong antibiotics and referred me to an ENT. It just seems like I get brushed off now that the doctor knows I have HA, and what if it is something? If I go to another doctor, then will he/she take me seriously either? It just is so frustrating when you feel like you are not taken seriously.
