I'm male 24 years old. I've been having really bad problems with blood and blood clots in the urine. Sometimes i can pass the clots (with great effort) but sometimes the clots would get very large that it would not come out when I urinate and it would obstruct the flow of urine, so I can't urinate anymore. When that happens, I actually have to go to the ER to have a Foley catheter inserted in my urethra (EXTREMELY PAINFUL!!!!) and irrigate out the clots. the first episode started when I was 14. I tried to pee but nothing would come out. So I pushed as hard as I can and eventually a huge clot came out with bloody urine following them, I was able to urinate normally after. I went to the ER and they did a series of tests but everything was normal and I was sent home.
The next episode came when I was 16 years old and this time i couldn't get the clot out and had to get a Foley catheter in me. Imagine inserting a hose the diameter of a pencil in your urethra (OUCH!). I then had a CT scan and cystoscopy to see whats wrong. But nothing. My urologist said I was fine and it may have been caused by trauma or something.
It wasn't until June of 2013 when I had another episode. Same thing happened. Large blood clot with bloody urine and I could not pee. Had to get a Foley in the ER. Most recent episode was this month. The urologist ordered another CT and cystoscopy. Nothing, not even kidney stones. I'm thankful that its not bladder/renal/testicular/prostate cancer or whatever but I want answers. My urologist diagnosed it as "Idiopathic Hematuria" which means he does not know what the heck is going on with me. If anybody has the same experiences please reply. Lets talk. I suffer from severe anxiety as well as OCD and not knowing the answer is killing me. Just the thought of living with this problem my whole life is extremely distressing. Did I mention having a Foley catheter are one of the most painful things any man goes through. Nobody should ever experience having to need one.
