I got bored and looked up a few quotes I want to post here. They are inspirational, and I hope some can find good meaning in them here.
"Act the way that you want to feel." - Gretchen Rubin
I like this one because I think that a good way to combat anxiety can be to "act happy". This may seem silly, but instead of giving in to the anxiety and freaking out or breaking down, try to act like you are calm and happy. See if it helps.
"Slow breathing is like an anchor in the midst of an emotional storm: the anchor won't make the storm goes away, but it will hold you steady until it passes."
- Russ Harris
Deep breathing is recommended a lot as a way to combat panic attacks. They may not erase the anxiety you are feeling, but like the quote says they can help keep you from full blown panic until you are able to calm down. One of the worst things you can do with panic attacks is to let it take hold and end up hyperventilating. I have done that and it can easily cause you to pass out.
“We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” - Albert Einstein
This one is really good as well. To combat our anxiety, our thinking does need to change. If we keep seeking out reassurance and freaking out over scary things we stay stuck in a cycle of anxiety that really sucks. The goal to therapy and/or medication is to help us change our thought patterns so we aren't dwelling on things that end up causing us to freak out.
"Do not allow fear of ‘what if’ to ruin the joy of what is!" - Author not listed
I'm still, as I'm sure a lot of us here are, trying to take the advice of this one. It is a simple and true quote. When we are anxious and worried about things, we ruin our day to day lives, and we know this and we despise this. More than once when I was in a period of bad anxiety, I went to do something with my family and didn't enjoy it like I wanted to because I was focused on my worry. This is horrible and I feel bad for it, but I obviously didn't do it because I wanted to, just like none of us here do. Our anxiety takes away our happiness in our day to day lives while we are worried about future things that most likely will NEVER happen to us. Living in the now is a good goal for all of us here, and one that I'm sure most of us are working towards, but it isn't easy for us by any means.
This was kind of a spur of the moment thing that stemmed from me being bored and thinking. I encourage people to post quotes they are inspired by as well here. Anxiety sucks, and we spend a lot of time trying to put our worries and feelings into perspective. I think sometimes that quotes like these can help us somewhat in doing that. I hope you all are doing well and I truly care about this community that has let me know time and time again I am not alone in the dark world of anxiety.
