The answer for me always lies in the mechanism. Study the mechanism and find truth of the situation - and the TRUTH will set you free.
You see it's all about tenuous links, we have anxiety and so we make the most tenuous of links between our "symptoms" and some horrible disease or some horrible fate that we don't want to befall us.
So what's happening here is we've seen our minds operating in a "crazy" manner, we've seen our thoughts looking a little "psychotic" and we've heard about people going insane and doing "crazy sh*t" on the TV, etc. and so we've thought "Wow, I hope that is not what is happening to me!" and then we've gone "OMG, WHAT IF IT IS
" and that's it we're stuck.
Now the reason why we are stuck is because NO-ONE can tell us we won't go crazy, because there is a chance we might - so that's it we are STUCK with this thing until one day we decide "Oh to hell with it!, I'm sick of worrying about it!" but until that day comes we will haunt ourselves and make ourselves ill.
But all this does is create more FEAR and ANGUISH and none of that is necessary if we can just remember how this thing works.
You see all that has happened is, and all that ever happens is we have developed anxiety, so - we have felt something or thought something, seen that, felt upset by it, looked for a cure, can't find the cure, tried to think of a possible cause, come up with a possible cause (in our own heads with actually very limited knowledge of the subject), don't like the sound of this possible cause, made this possible cause a real possibility, Sh*t ourselves with worry that we MIGHT have or MIGHT develop this possible cause of our symptoms - developed more anxiety.
Now that's the mechanism and it works in virtually every thread on this forum, so what we have got to realise is that we are anxious and blow things out of proportion and, because we are desperate for a REASON for how we are feeling - we go off on a mental quest to label this thing we are suffering from. We don't know what it is and we are desperate to KNOW what it is because we like it when we KNOW, once it has a name a description we can understand it better and so we send our tired mind off on a search for an answer and it starts THINKING of all the possibilities of what it MIGHT be suffering from or what it MIGHT suffer from in the future.
When that happens it usually comes back with some very tenuous link to some disease or other that fits the way we are feeling or thinking at the time.
Take this example: Honestly what do you know about schizophrenia? How much knowledge have you really got?
Now I have no desire to put you down here, but my bet is not a lot - but you are still prepared to worry about it - and that is how anxiety GRABS us and beats us up!!.
What's happened is you've anxiously put 2 & 2 together and gotten 5. And now you've got 5 (you're not schizophrenic - you're suffering from anxiety!!) you are worrying that you MIGHT Get 5. Now you MIGHT and I can't tell you otherwise and that is THE problem, but its not a problem is you know the mechanism, understand the process.
Understand how anxiety works and the next time it throws a symptom at you - you will just dismiss it as anxiety.
Fail to understand how anxiety works and the next time it throws a symptom at you - you will think of a possible dreadful outcome - BELIEVE it
- and get ill
I hope it helped
