Totally agree with what Lunatone is saying.
This is exactly what I understand as "re-programming" ourselves.
Somehow we have "programmed" ourselves to re-act in the wrong way to these symptoms, we have programmed ourselves to see these symptoms as threats and so we react to them in the wrong way. If we do what Lunatone has said then we literally re-write that programming and TEACH ourselves a new and improved way of reacting instead. But all this takes time so we have to be patient and not let this old way, this dysfunctional way, this old programming, this old HABIT (call it what you will) get in the way of our progress. If we can develop the tenacity (and this is the main trick we need to adopt) to keep up this new way, NO MATTER WHAT NEW SYMPTOM WE HAVE FOUND THIS WEEK, then we will form a new habit, which WILL replace the old one - but only when it has been established long enough to become a new one.
Practising it once or twice won't do it, it has to be all the time, or as near all the time as possible because we have to be vigilant, our old habits are just that OLD and therefore ENGRAINED, ENTRENCHED and therefore have the ability to over-power our new habits quite easily. New habits are like small saplings compared to these MIGHTY OAKS (the old way of doing things) that have been with us for years and that is THE problem, it takes time, effort and discipline, in the most trying of circumstances, to fell these MIGHTY old habits and the utmost patience and care to allow these new ones, these tiny feeble ones, to be nurtured and grown into something BIGGER.
Hope it helps
