I now there are scattered posts here and there that mention fish oils, but I thought it might be nice to have a dedicated thread for discussion. For example, what type of fish oil are you on, what dose you take, how beneficial you find it to be, and if it's your sole treatment or in conjunction with others.
I started taking fish oil capsules in June, about 3-4 per day, one gram each. They were the random store brand, I didn't check EPA vs DHA. I did find them beneficial. They didn't exactly prevent my anxiety, but it was like it was reduced to background noise so to speak, or I would be able to rationalize things better. It also made me more mentally focused at work, which is good because I have a lot of work stress.
After about six or eight weeks, they didn't seem as beneficial, so I presumed placebo effect, or just that added stress just overwhelmed me too much and they weren't as effective for that reason. Interesting thing though, I looked at the bottle today, it was listed as one gram, but it also contained flax oil and something else, the actualy fish oil dose was only 400 mg. So my dose was technically dropped down from previous.
So anyway, I read about how the EPA concentration is important for anxiety or depression benefits. Today I went to GNC and found some extra strength fish oil, with 730 mg of EPA alone. So I've not decided yet how many of these a day I'm going to take. They aren't cheap, $25 a bottle for 60 pills, I'm thinking I'll do two a day for awhile.
Looking forward to hearing some other experiences with fish oil!
