I've been taking Remeron and Xanax PRN for the past 3 weeks, and while I have noticed an improvement in my anxiety levels, there are still far too many times when I feel highly anxious (more of a health anxiety but not completely); I'm gauging my anxiety levels when I am NOT on the Xanax, because I do not consider the xanax an everyday medication like Remeron is. My anxiety levels oscillate throughout a given day, and some days are better than others, but when it comes to the point where my anxiety warrants my decision to take Xanax, then to me it is not a good day for my anxiety. The xanax works wonders and basically cures my symptoms for the few hours that they last, but my hope with a treatment regimen is to not feel a need to rely on the xanax to function at an optimal mental state.
I am seeing my pdoc in a few days and am conducting some research on non-benzo anti-anxiety medications that can be taken daily and are not habit-forming. My pdoc knows that I do a lot of research on medications and is typically willing to try me out on something that I mention to him. Some anxiolytic meds that I've learned about and haven't yet tried are gabapentin, pregablin (lyrica), propranolol, and hydroxyzine (vistaril). The SSRI's/SNRI's I've already tried in the past and am unwilling to retry because I get sexual side effects from them that the Remeron thankfully doesn't give me.
I'm not wishing to be reliant on medications for treating my anxiety entirely, and so I am also going to be seeking a recommendation for a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist very soon.
So, what I would like to ask on here, is what are some of your experiences with these non-benzo anti-anxiety medications, and what other medications would you guys recommend I look into?
