Alright, if you've seen some of my posts here, you'd know I have a few phobias relating to my (cystic) acne. The biggest one would be flesh eating infection, then mrsa, then staph.
It looked like a regular cyst until this morning where I noticed it had broken... once I got out of the shower, it looked like it had scabbed a little. No pain at all.
The spot did concern me enough to get checked out at the emergency room... the doctor took one look at it and wrote me a prescription for cloxacillin.
I'm so scared right now. As of this writing, still no pain. It only hurts when I poke at it.
I'm writing this because I fear it will turn into something worse. What pain is normal with infections like these? Have any of you dealt with them, and can you tell me of your experience? Thanks so much.
I have eczema and acne to a certain degree on my arms, etc. My eczema at one point following getting a tattoo done (at a reputible place, no problems there in the past) encouraged my tattoo to get infected - and I too ended up with a staph infection. I frequently worry about the same thing, especially when I scratch; and you got it checked MUCH sooner than I did and I'm still here.
When I had mine I had no pain whatsoever - but I had a raging fever. I'm unsure of what the temp. was but it was enough I was fading in and out of conciousness while telling my girlfriend (we were at her doctor's appointment) that I was okay, repeatedly, and I still wanted to walk her home.. definitely not thinking clearly. I was extra pissy and totally not myself. I at times felt like I could start hallucinating any minute; the fever was bad. Her doctor gave me an Advil and suggested getting to a walkin clinic as soon as possible. At that point after a few days I thought it would be smart to get it looked at. Sure enough, it was staph, despite the lack of a gaping wound anywhere in the presence (Polysporin cleared up the outer infection a little too late.)
Now, as you know, the anxiety that comes with staph is intense. However - if it was going to kill you, it would've already done so. You got seen long before I did in terms of when you noticed and how long it took you to get to a doctor, and I made it through after a course of Cloxacillin and a lot of rest. Take your meds, keep it as clean as possible (don't wash it obsessively, just be gentle when you shower, Polysporin if recommended by your doctir) and if you don't start feeling better about midway through your antibiotics, go back and get checked.
However, staph sucks and it's definitely scary - being actually diagnosed with it is worse than the fear of having it in my opinion. You've been diagnosed, you caught it early, you have medicine - stop poking at it (lol), and you will be just fine. :) Best of luck
