Freaking out - Yellow Stool
« on: February 26, 2008, 08:52:39 AM »
So for the past three days I have had yellow stool...not pale, the stool is actually brown, but when I wipe it's bright yellow (TMI I know). Anyway, I went out for a couple drinks on Saturday and it's happened ever since. I started Zoloft a couple weeks ago and I am just wondering if there was some weird reaction between the alcohol and Zoloft causing my liver to not function properly? Does anyone else get this? is it normal?

I have had that happen to me before also. I think it may have someting to do with what
you eat or drink. I would keep an eye on it and if it persists, I would call your physician
to help put your mind at ease.

Thanks for the response -- I haven't really been eating anything out of the ordinary...I keep a pretty plain diet and eat most of the same things over and over again. I also just had yellow diarrhea and its starting to make me really nervous. When it happened to you did it last for days?

I know it can be an indication of food passing through your system too quickly or an indication of liver issues. I am concerned that maybe my liver is having a weird reaction to the Zoloft -- (is that even possible?) like maybe there is a bile obstruction or elevated liver enzymes...I don't know...I am freaked out and need to stay of google, clearly.

Just a thought you haven't started taking vitamin tablets have you, B2 and betacarotine can give you yellow or orange poo.

It is quite possible that the drug is causing this not necesarily because it is affecting your liver but becuase it is affecting your digestion.

If you had blocked bile duct you would have bad pain and clay coloured poo.

If it carries on take a sample to your Dr for testing in case its caused by infection.

Thanks for the response -- I haven't started taking vitamins recently. I will wait it out and hope it goes away. If not, I will call my doc.

Its not a liver issue -- in fact my doctor said it happens when food passes too quickly through your system. Apparently its nothing to worry about...its happened ot me a bunch since then and everything still checks out OK so I wouldn't stress about it to much.

have you been stressed out or panicing a lot lately? You'd be amazed the effects anxiety can have on the gastrointestinal system!!! I've had the yellowish stool before, mostly the day after panic attacks, even mild ones. It also gets very watery. Intestinal issues and IBS are both really common among people with anxiety and HA.

LOL - not a liver issue at all.  You liver doesn't make your poo yellow.  It makes your skin and eyes yellow.  It runs through blood, not through bile.
