So I've been having shooting pains/tightness in my chest on and off for 5 months now. When it first happened I thought it was a heart attack and they did an EKG and chest x-ray and said it was a panic attack and nothing was wrong with my heart. However, the pain never went away. I started tracking the pain and noticed it mostly comes when I burp or when my stomach is achy (especially during my period week). I used to have burning with the pain, so I started taking heart burn medicine and the burning went away. However, the pain is still there, as well as the burping. I told my doctor this and she said that since the pain diminished when I took the heartburn meds, that's a good sign but maybe my dose isn't strong enough so she upped my dose and told me to come back in a month if the pain is still there. If that happens, she will then refer me to a gastrologist. She never checked my heart or blood once. I went to another doctor just for a second opinion and when I told her I have chest pain but burping and stomach pain is associated with it, she also latched on to gastro issues and did not check my heart or blood work.
The thing I can't stop worrying about is that they all are dismissing the heart. The (tiny) logical voice in my head says that this is because I am 26, of average weight, with no heart disease in the family, so it being the heart is unlikely...but it makes me worried that they don't even check it. Especially since I didn't tell the 2nd doctor that I ever even had an EKG or chest x-ray. Can I demand that they check my heart just to rule it out once and for all, or do I have to find peace with their focusing on gastro issues for my chest pain?
My other question is could a potential heart attack even remotely be the cause for the pain, if it's been coming and going for 5 months straight? If it is heart problems, would I have fallen ill by now? I know you guys aren't medical professionals, but many you of you are "google professionals" (like me, haha) and might have read about this...
Sorry for the long post! I'm just very freaked!
