so, i'm just a tad concerned, and my rational self says it's ok, just have it checked at his next checkup...but then there is the lurking HA...
so, my son is 12. he is very skinny(always has been)and has long legs. he has never been very coordinated(i'm not bashing him, i love him like this! :), just stating relevant facts). he didn't start walking til 15 months, has some fine motor skill issues with his hands, has weak muscles, and isn't very good at sports. you know, the nerdy type :)
his arms and legs are really skinny(so are mine), but i'm thinking genetics. skinny like bones, no meat. he sees his dr once a year and has always checked out fine. we sometimes talk about his weight, and he has always been 10th percentile, so he's fine.
however, i've never talked to her directly about his legs. he always sat with his knees together instead of "criss cross"(do you know what i mean?). so, i did ask or read about that when he was like 3 or something and was told it was fine. he walks with his knees kinda close together. it's hard to explain. it's not pigeon toed, or bow-legged, but it's almost like his knees almost touch when he walks. the term "knock-kneed" keeps popping in my head, but i'm not sure if that is it or not, and i don't want to google that to find out :) it's kind of an "awkward" lanky walk. He runs like this too. it is so hard to explain.
anyway, the other day my sister said it looked like it was getting worse. like his knees almost cross over each other when he walks(she was watching him from behind). so, i looked at him, and although i don't know if it is "worse" it just always looked that way to me. it's "Just the way he walks" to me.
anyway, now i'm a little concerned. i'm trying to tame all the thoughts that come to my mind:
i should have talked to the dr about it sooner
what if it's a type of cancer, he's complained about back and knee pain before
what if he has to wear braces on his legs
what if it's progressive and i've waited too long for them to do anything about it
what if he is an adult who can't walk right, like with his feet way out and his knees together
what if he has to use crutches the rest of his life
anyway, the dr has done thorough exams at every well check. i even remember last time she had him stand and bend over to look at his spine. it was fine.
so, i am not going to google. i want to, but i know that evil google will take me on the road of blowing it out of proportion. so i'm asking for your thoughts on this. he just had a well check at the beginning of june, so he won't be due one of those til next june. should i wait til then, make an appt now, give it a few months?
