Lorazepam worked for my panic attacks!
« on: May 03, 2005, 01:11:27 PM »
Good news!. I think I finally found something that worked for my panic attacks. I have tried xanax, lorazepam and a lot of similar drugs with not much luck but I got something called klonopin(sp?) from my doctor the other day and it seems to be working. For the first time yesterday I was actually able to pull myself together and give the dog a bath and go out to eat which was a MAJOR accomplishment in itself!. I don't know if this drug would work for everyone but it looks like it worked for me :cool:. Anyone else having success with it?

That's AWESOME! :spineyes:. I am so happy that the Klonopin is working for you and that you were able to get some things done that were important to you. No, I've never taken it myself but I've heard other people talking about it. Anyway, CONGRATS to you!.

Lorazepam (Ativan) was terrible for me.... I had a really hard time on it.

I was acting reall strangely on it, really stoned, out of it. Just knew something wasn't right at all.
I was on the smallest dose possible of Ativian and still acted strange. Aparently when I phone my Pdoc she said for me to get off it A.S.A.P she said I sounded like I drank too much, I was slurring my words etc.

Did not have a good time on Ativan at all.

However the one tranq that helped a bit for me was Clonazepam, I was never on it really long term, since these drugs can be addiictive, but it did help get the edge off when my panic attacks were out of control.

Then again everyone is different, I for one will enver got on Lorazepam again, scared me. B-;

Actually Lorazapam did not work well for my panic attacks or help with my tendency to isolate myself. I was then put on Klonapin (spelling?) and it made a world of difference to me. Almost 3 years ago I was a relatively well functioning CCNY student working toward my degree in psychology. I was invited to be in a honors role position to take master classes alongside my BA requirements during my last year at school. Due to a very violent childhood, my self-esteem, self-worth was not in good shape and I therefore felt total panic when offered this opportunity. I couldn't understand how I was worthy of this even though I was an A student. This incidence was the catalyst of my leaving school and not leaving my apartment. At the time I did not know what caused me to have such a pathological reaction to continuing school. Friends and family intervened and got me into therapy immediately but it took almost 7 months, even with drugs, to feel comfortable to go to the local grocery. I have come along way since then thanks to weekly therapy and Klonapin as well as Zoloft. I still tend to isolate myself quite a bit and due to 2 spinal surgeries, I have been pretty much homebound. It makes it easier for me not to get out in the world and go back to school. I only have a year left to meet the requirements for graduation. Still, at this point the thought of going back to school panics me terribly. I am on SSI for this disorder and soon my long time therapist is leaving me and the center where I go. My anxiety level is increasing, I feel afraid I will fall back into the old habit of not leaving my house. Has anyone experienced this level of non-functioning and has managed to get better in spite of setbacks? Sorry for going on for so long but I have been up all night with anxiety and needed to vent to someone or someplace. Thanks for listening, and would welcome any feedback about my problem.

I am currently taking Lorazepam and Paxcil.. I have been taking the pam for about 3 years now and the paxcil almost 2 years.. I am currently in cognative therapy and I seem to be doing a bit better: ) I am only taking .5ml of them both daily.. sensitive to meds.. I also have had terrible agoraphobia for the past 2 years.. but in the past 2 weeks, I am able to stay home alone a little more.. I hate being alone.. but I guess thats life! The panic is also better since I have learned that it is almost impossible to pass out while your heart rate is up.. I reccomend the cognative therapy to EVERYONE with this horrible, crippling disorder.. It is really working for me.. best of luck to you all..

panic attacks!
« Reply #8 on: November 17, 2005, 02:19:25 PM »
Hi everyone I'm new here my name is Amy and am in desperate need of some help, about 6 years ago i was put on clonazepam and paxil for my panic disorder, I was on them for two years and then thought to myself what the hell mind over matter, and I got off them.  For 4 years i was great, living a normal life graduated from College and even when to University, well 3 months ago i was diagnosed with IBS and ever since the doc told me that my panic attacks started coming back, i dropped out of my 3rd year of university because i was afraid that when i felt the need to go to the bathroom, i would panic, and i did.  I tried the paxil and clonazepam again and the paxil made me really sick, throwing up dizzy, sick all day.  I went back to the doctor and he prescribed citalopram, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.  I havent left my house in 3 months, i'm afraid to go to the bathroom cause i think i'll panic.  I'm 24 years old and this is not the life i want, and i dont know what to do, im afraid to go out because im afraid ill panic,,, how pathetic is that, i feel like im losing my mind.  If anyone knows of any medication that worked for them or has any helpful insight for me i would appreciate it....Thanks for listening
