a lot of you have been asking if palpable nodes are normal. According to google, no. But in real life, I dont know if they are normal but they are very common.
I have asked 5 people close to me if they can feel theire lymph nodes and the answers were:
one asked "what are lymph nodes?" and then laughed and said she has never felt her neck looking for something like that.
one said she didnt want to check because stuff like that freakes har out, so she never checkes her body.
one said he had no idea because he had never checked, but let me feel his neck. i found two nodes, one rather big. They are still there months later. He wasnt worried at all.
one said she always has lymph nodes and it kind of freakes her out, but not enough to make her go to her GP. She has let me feel hers several times, some are always there and some come and go.
one said she always has lymph nodes in bothe neck, armpits and groin and it really doesnt bother her. She let me feel hers.
AND. I noticed a lymph node behind my then 6 months old son a year and a half ago, went to the doctor a few times and she was totally unconcerned. just told me to leave it alone. I checked the other day and it is still there.
My sisters children both have palpable lymph nodes. One of theme had a lot and the doctor wanted to keep an eye on her, the nodes eventually went down (mostly), and they never kvew why they were there.
SO....it must be common!
I was thinking. Many people dont know what lymph nodes are, many know what they are but never bother to check if they can feel them, many know what they are and can feel them but are not worried about it. Then there are those few that go to the doctor...and even of those few....only under 1% turn out to have lymphoma.
