Trying to break cycle.. ALS tongue fears
« on: July 26, 2013, 10:21:34 PM »
So I have been doing better but today I accidentally (more like stupidly) started looking at my tongue and I noticed it quivered a little bit. Well I remembered from my obsessive googling that no one with als felt there tongue really twitching, and that if you could feel it, that was a good sign. I am in full panic again that my tongue quivers an I can't feel it!!! Help please !

I also kinda feel like when I breath in and out that it quivers. When I was starting at I noticed. Somedays I'm just not okay :( anyway please help if you have had this experience

I'm trying to not google but I remember from when I used to google this was a bad sign!

Oh ya. No weakness, trouble eating or speech problems

I'm just so scared tonight is another bad night

Chesney...no.  You're 19. It's Friday night. Grab a friend and go to a movie. Get off the computer. I promise you...it's not ALS.

The more you think of your tongue the weirder it's gonna feel.

Accept the tongue sensation, acknowledge it feels weird, then move on.
It's anxiety at its finest :)

I 100% understand your anxiety over this! The als fear is the worst!
I swear since I've read them forums I've ended up getting half the bulbar onset symptoms
It's a strange thing that even though at our age the chances are so low of us getting this yet it still gives us such panic and fear! Remember the more you stare or concentrate on something the more odd and unusual it will seem to you.
Stay positive

Everyone's tongue moves- it's a muscle.

Bulbar ALS patients tongues twitch way after they have trouble talking and swallowing.

You are fine!!

So you have the worst form of the very rare disease which doesn't even start with twitching? Nope...
