Lexapro?
« on: June 04, 2006, 10:46:42 PM »
I just started taking Lexapro for anxiety last week.  Just wondering if anyone else has taken or is taking it?  I've noticed some side effects...I'm concerned if they will go away soon?

Just hours after taking my first pill I was up all night with diarrhea, but was better the following day.  I'm also noticing that I'm sometimes dizzy for a few seconds throughout the day.  And finally, I've always been a sleeper - I can sleep 10-11 hours with no problem and never wake up the whole time.  Well since starting Lexapro I've been waking up a lot earlier and having trouble staying asleep the remainder of the morning.

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it!  Hope everyone is doing well!

I have been taking Lexapro for about a month and a half now. It works nicely. I am still having to play with the dosage but I have few overt side effects,

I've been taking it for about 2 weeks (on the full dose).  I had the same poop problems and still get them, though not as bad.  I couldn't sleep before taking it so I can't comment on that!!!  My sister is also taking it and had not side effects.  She's been on it for a month or so and feels 100% better (with anxiety).

Well I'm now on my 4th week and it has finally subsided.  I'm starting to feel better too...not so anxious about every little thing ALL the time.  So overall, I really like it!

It's probably been 4 weeks for me too.  Most side effects are gone and I have to say I still have my hypochondria but am calmer about it.  In fact, I actually have some "good" days mixed in now!  I've heard that the medicine can take awhile for fulllll benefit.  Meaning, even in people it works in there is a transition period of good and bad days where the good days eventually start beating the bad days.  Hope that's the case.

I'm going into my 6th week on Lexapro and I'm still having diarrhea problems.  It's not everyday, usually once a week, but sometimes not at all.   It just comes and goes.  It's so annoying, I'm thinking about not taking Lexapro anymore....what do you guys think?

I guess it comes down to, do the benefits outweigh the side effects?  I know if I were to ask my doctor that question she would say 6-weeks is not enough time to get the full benefits...Although I'd have to think if you haven't had any success after six weeks it might not be the right choice.  I know there are other ones but don't know the names or what kind of side effects they create.

My doctor would probably say the same thing.  I was supposed to have an appt. w/ her today but I cancelled.  I just don't see where it's helping me and I don't have much patience so I'm just going to stop it.  Do you know what kind of symptoms can occur if you stop cold turkey?

I'm not sure.  Maybe none if you haven't been taking it that long although you'd have to ask your doc.
