New to the forum & seeking help

The whole time growing up as a kid and throughout high shcool, I was always outgoing and had a ton of friends.  Then all of a sudden at the age of 19 and off at college, I started having a really hard time in public and meeting new people.  I was terrified of going to classes where I didn't know anyone and hated to talk in front of people.  Even getting my hair cut was near impossible.  Whenever I was in an uncomfortable position, I would have tremors, dizziness, sweating and I would feel like my heart was racing a million miles an hour.  I made it through college and actually made some friends just by forcing myself to go out and talk with people.  I thought I was going nuts and just tried to forget about it and my problem seemed to go away for a while.  It would come back every so often but I would just try to avoid situations that I couldn't control.  Sorry to keep blabbing on.  I havent' talked to ANYONE (NOT EVEN MY WIFE) about this since it started 8 years ago.  I really didn't realize what was wrong with me until about a couple months ago.   I'm sick of living my life this way and I finally want to do something about it.  What's my first step?  Do I go to my family doc?

hey,  rjs270

You could see about going to a health center if you have one, they always have a psychologist and you pay according to your income.I went to my doctor to get help because all the anxiety led me to depression.I told the doc I was feeling desperate and he set me up with someone.I know it is hard to admit you have a problem with anxiety but you need to share it with someone close to you so they can try to understand you better and support you.I wish you the best.
