Acid reflux
« on: March 22, 2013, 03:49:17 PM »
Just a quick question I'm afraid. I have been regurgitating with my belches an awful lot of late, and I still have 2 months of waiting until I get an endoscopy  done about it. I'm taking 30-60 mg Lansoprazole, Gaviscon Advance, Setraline, normal antiacids AND modifiying my lifestyle and diet, but I'm still bringing stuff up and it makes me get a tight throat. Omeprazole had no effect and Lansoprazole doesn't seem to either. It's horrid, horrid, horrid and has cost me my job, family respect, friends and hobbies. I'm underweight, age 21 and otherwise healthy. If it's all down to anxiety (is there any way to tell?!), how long will it take to go away? It's all I can think about and I'm scared of having to give up everything I like for the rest of my life. :(

I used to (and still do sometimes) get acid reflux really bad. It would constantly reflux up into my mouth, and it would make my throat tight, and even make me feel I can't breath.

For me, it was definitely related to my stress and anxiety levels. Aloe Vera juice helped me more than a lot of the other stuff. Hang in there!

I just posted this on sydneymom's thread ....

Something that always fries me is that docs only prescribe pharmaceuticals.

Have you looked into an alternative solution to your reflux?  I don't have GERD or anything like that, but I've had reflux (worse since menopause).    Something that works for me is a combination of D-Limeone and Sea Buckthorn.  Start with both initially (600-1200 mg daily of D-Limeone) and once under control, cut back as directed on bottle.

Both of these accelerate the healing of damaged tissues found in chronic acid reflux - make sure you get the ones that have the pulp AND seed.

Another alternative - if you have a NutriBullet (I have one of those, too), you can put in a whole lime and lemon - I think there is a recipe in the booklet for GERD symptoms.  It's the pulp that really helps and the NutriBullet turns it into juice.

You can also take Betaine HCI with meals ......

There is so much more out there than pharmaceuticals .... stuff that DOESN'T tear our bodies apart and cause nasty side effects.

My ENT said that he hates it when docs prescribe meds without looking into the cause. Low stomach acid can cause many of the same symptoms as high stomach acid, yet so many docs rush to prescribe PPIs and acid-controlling meds.

Daxter, you have my empathy. I'm going in to the GI doc in two weeks and I'm sure they'll schedule a scope a month after that. Some answers would be nice. I'm just sorry that you're dealing with this at such a young age!
