Blood Pressure Again
« on: March 22, 2013, 10:10:58 AM »
Last year I was very worried about my blood pressure.  It was averaging 140/90 but with exercise I got it down to an average of 133/84.  In the summer I even averaged more like 124/82.  I stopped taking it in the summer.  Because I will be going to the doctor soon I decided to check it again recently.  It has gone back up.  I know in the winter I am not walking nearly as much and have gained weight but I still find this very stressful.  This morning I took it again and it was around 145/94.  I took it when I got up but I thought about taking it while in bed for a 1/2 hour before getting up.  Would that have upped it?  Does anyone know if BP naturally rises in the winter with cold weather?  I am going to get back into walking but now I have triggered my anxiety again.  My logical brain says I can get it down again but my emotional brain says it's high.
I wish I could shut my worry brain off.

Worry and stress are very much a part of high B/P.
Drink water. I know that helps me.
Relax --lie down for a bit.
Make sure that you are not eating much in the way of sodium because that will help B/P go up.

I'm pretty obsessive about checking mine.  I check it way too often.  It's usually nice and low in the mornings but can be high if I have anticipatory morning anxiety or am abrubtly woken out of a dream.  I think cold is supposed to raise bp a bit due to the constriction of the vessels.

I also check my blood pressure a ridiculous amount of times throughout the day and I if I get a high or even elevated number I freak out and it then it continues to rise until it is around 150/99 ish....I wish I could stop doing this and turn my brain off about it too
