Very good blood pressure but high bpm?
« on: March 21, 2013, 12:23:41 PM »
Hi, i went to the pharmacy to check my blood pressure and heart rate. I had 11,7/75 wich i think its really good, but my heart rate was 100bpm. After that i checked myself at home, and it was 83. Also, a month ago a doctor checked my heart and everything was fine. Should i worry?

No, why is this worrisome to you? A heart rate of 100? The fact that you're taking your blood pressure at the pharmacy tells me you're checking more than you need to unless your doctor told you to do that.

The machines at the pharmacy/stores are often known to not be properly maintained so the heart rate setting could definitely be off. I would not worry at all.

Those machines are totally unpredictable!  I remember going there - my hubby and I would always have a contest to see who had the lowest BP.  He would go first ... then I would go and the stupid thing wouldn't even register.  I always won because mine was the lowest! LOL ;-)

My heart rate is high anytime I use a pharmacy machine...just looking at it raises my heart rate!  They are known for not being accurate.  Also remember anything 110 bpm and under is considered normal!  No worries!

My heart rate was elevated between about Dec. last year, through last week sometime. It even seemed elevated right when I'd wake up. Sometimes it would drop though. I mentioned it to my doctor twice. Both times, she wouldn't even speculate on what the possible cause could be. Eventually, I decided it was because I'd gained some weight - a very welcome thing! I figured my heart was working a little harder to pump blood through my newly normal-weight body. I also thought it could be a medicine side effect or allergy. I sort-of kept a worried eye on it, but it didn't give me true health anxiety, because I've had 4 clear EKG's in the recent past. Then one day, I got my driver's license renewed. My fast heart rate returned to normal by next morning. It was subconscious anxiety. It's still at it's normal rate... what I felt as an elevation was actually only about 11bpm more then baseline. I'd downloaded a free metronome app, so I was able to check the rate on my mobile. I would swear up and down that it was over 100, and when I got to the doctor's office it would be from 120-144. It turned out to be elevated to about 82-83. It dropped to 73-76 once the Anxiety Event passed. My bp was great. It was measured by my doctor at every appointment - I couldn't check it at home. Is there something anxious going on in your life right now, even subconsciously, that could be causing your elevation?

My friend who is an internist/cardiologist has told me that some of his patients have a naturally higher heart rate, with no organic disease.

Marc is right. My mother and I both have naturally high heart rates. We have been compared to rabbits by some Dr.'s.  Its never gave either of us any trouble. My resting heart rate ranges between 110-115 at it given moment. No problems.  ;D
