traumatic experience cause me to have a panick attack
« on: March 21, 2013, 12:22:46 AM »
hi about 2 months ago I was at work and had a coworker suddenly had a heart attack and died in my arms without any notice. about two weeks later after the funeral I was at the hotel on the road for work and smoking a joint like Ive done every night for the last 12 years. and all of a sudden my heart started pounding uncontrollably and I thought I was having a heart attack. I went to the hospital where the docter said I had had a panick attack. after a few more days of feeling very anxious and just waiting for another panick attack to come on I decided to elave the shift and went home. I reached out to a councillor who told me I was suffereing from symptoms of ptsd. so ive been trying to cope with these anxious feelings and constant anxiety. ca anyone help me with some forms of help I might be able to do as I have tried a brand of pills which I really do not want to take they actually make me feel more anxious they are called venlafaxine. so I stopped taking them I am also taking lorazopam at night to help me sleep. I wam wondering if smoking marijuana will bring back another panick attack and if it is safe for me to use because ive been using it for years to help build an appetite control of my add and to help me sleep. any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Honest answer? Smoking weed is a mug's game. It won't solve anything at all. It only heightens your anxiety levels. The amount of people we have on here that write up that smoking weed was the start of their anxiety. Makes you paranoid to bits. I think most people look at the likes of Bob Marley and think ' now there was one calm man '. Trust me he wasn't calm at all. He was a wreck from smoking too much weed. It doesn't serve any purpose by way of relaxing anybody with anxiety at all. It was a shame about your co-worker. That would bring on fears about your own heart. My own father dropped at my feet one morning. Massive heart attack. It was a lot to deal with. Just keep up the work with your therapist. Knock the weed on the head. If you think you need something to calm you down talk to a doctor. Get medication. It is far better for you than weed.

thank you for your feedback m8. first off though I would just like to say im not trying to treat my symptoms of ptsd with the marijuana ive just been so reliant ove the 12 year span that ive smoked it that I think im having such a hard time focusing on other thigns in my life because of it. ive lost weight lost my ability to focus generally most of the time I don't even feel like im in my own body. I should also mention that I have a very close relationship with my grandfather who basically raised me and also called me the day my coworker died complaining about cramps in his chest. im 5000 miles away form home working right now and I think I trip home for a little while could possibly be whats best for me right now.
also I would like to know if anybody has experienced a similar situation and cold tell me if a lot of the anxiety is just because im missing home. I haven't smoked a joint since the day I took the panick attack although I would love to try it to see if I could get my appetite back im just very fearfull it will set off a panick attack. even though  think the first panick attack I took was inevidble. maybe it was enhanced by the pot
