Expecting a week in hell!!!
« on: March 20, 2013, 06:28:49 AM »
Ive been at the hospital for almost two days now, they have taken about 20 bloodsamples, uronsample, stool sample and I still have this explosive watery undigested food diarrhea and the doctors are clueless!  I having a ct scan done on friday, the doctors mentioned the c word and recimmended the scan! Im SO very very afraid.  How common is it that the doctors order a ct scan but it doesnt show anything? Am i hoping for a miracle?

Pretty often. I'm surprised they didn't do a colonoscopy before the scan or in place of it though.

Yep, such things happen pretty often. My boyfriend had a CT scan of spine some time ago, to check out his pains - it was OK, just minor things. Mom had a skin biopsy and abdominal ultrasound (in both cases docs recommended it, also manrioned worst case scenarios) - all was fine! So it does happen all the time. Docs simply need to check everything, they are doing their jobs. You' ll be all right!

Thank you!!! That is what I really need to hear! I had a colonoscopy last week, it was clear so I guess I can rule out colon cancer.  And since small intestine cancer is SO rare and Im only 27, with no family history of cancer i guess the odds arent that big!

I once had a ct scan because the ultrasound thing in the ER was broken and instead of, you know, finding another one, they figured a contrast CT would do the job just as well.  I was not too pleased with that...especially because I was having a rare moment of health lucidity where I was like "I have the flu and a UTI, please give me antibiotics so I can go home!"

...so, yeah, they'll throw those at you for pretty much anything.  At your age it's highly unlikely to be anything sinister.  If I were the betting type I'd put money on you walking away with an IBS diagnosis.  They have to rule everything else out first, but it's what I would expect from your symptoms.
