Any information or advice?
« on: March 19, 2013, 11:55:01 PM »
I am needing a med change. And honestly, I don't know much about many of the prescription meds, and I am also considering trying natural supplement, but I don't know much about those either.
Can you let me know which has worked best for you, and also, which did not so good, or had not so good side effects.
I want to make the most informed decision as to where I go next.
My anxiety is not good at all right now, and I am hoping for something that really will help me out of this rough patch.
And information or advice you could give me would sure be appreciated.

What are you now taking, and have you taken any other anxiety medications in the past?

NOTE: I'm not a doctor, and particularly not yours, so there may be factors I'm unaware of. Therefore all advice is of a general nature and you should consult your doctor before following any of it, especially before changing med doses.

I think the effectiveness of over the counter aids and herbals depends on how severe your anxiety is.  But, its sure worth a try.  From my own experience none of them did anything:  St Johns Wort, Valerian, Passion Flower, Sublingual B-12, Melatonin, Magnesium, Ginko, Zinc, etc.  I have a cabinet full of this stuff...none of them did anything...which reminds me I should throw them away and clear some shelf space.  I do think eating a healthier diet, fruits, vegetables, and lean protein every few hours has helped my anxiety a bit.  I am now stopping caffiene too.

Everybody reacts differently to different meds as I'm sure you know. For me personally citalopram seemed to work the best. I tried lexapro, cymbalta and St. John's wort. Out of the three that's what worked for me at least for a couple years. I had to up the dose about a year in but that's about it.  Currently I am lowering the dose in half hoping I can go back a bit. With the help of this website and some other personal therapy I feel I am able to control my anxiety more. Hope it helps, sorry not much info.
