How will I know when celexa is working?
« on: March 19, 2013, 08:56:51 PM »
I just started celexa 10mg 9 days ago and am also on Klonopin 0.5 mg at night which I eventually want to wean off. How will I know when it's time to start coming off the Klonopin? How long does it usually take for celexa to work for anxiety/ panic disorder?

How long does it usually take for celexa to work for anxiety/ panic disorder?

Anywhere from 3-12 weeks at a therapeutic dose which is usually at least 20mg/day.

NOTE: I'm not a doctor, and particularly not yours, so there may be factors I'm unaware of. Therefore all advice is of a general nature and you should consult your doctor before following any of it, especially before changing med doses.

The first indicator for me is an increase in panic threshold, meaning, I can feel more anxiety before onset of a panic attack. Give it at least 12 weeks before judging performance if you can tolerate the side effects. At the 8-12 week mark improvement may become substantial.
