Scared. Need help reassuring myself
« on: March 19, 2013, 04:26:50 PM »
I was afraid that I had contracted a virus/disease. But after talking to a doctor on a pay website ( one of those chat websites) , they reassured me that I was at no risk. However a month later the thought popped back into my head. I know that I don't have a problem. But I cant help but think that I do. I have tried praying every night before bed, and that helps, it's getting better but its still not completely gone. To make matters worse, I am on an intense workout plan and get random shooting aches and pains because of it. Any suggestions on calming my nerves ? It is starting to affect my daily life. I rented a movie last night and ended up stopping it 3/4 of the way through because I was sick to my stomach of worry.

Well the good thing about all of this is that you are aware that nothing is wrong with you and that you do have uncontrollable, obsessive thoughts that are the real problem. You have to begin working on the thoughts not what the thoughts are about. Recognizing the problem is the first step in taking back control.

You might want to look into professional help for your anxiety. I find that if you go through the professional route first, the holistic route ends up working much better. The more information you can get about your anxiety from a professional, is the more ammunition you will have to battle it. You need to become educated in what anxiety is as an illness and how it affects you as an individual because everyone's anxiety is different and responds differently to the many treatments that are out there. You have to find what works for you and you can only do that by examining the how, when, where and what of your anxiety.

That's a good first step in getting better.

I had some Cognitive therapy about a year ago for some other issues. Im about 99% back to normal. I just used logic and thought some stuff through. It's one of those things, that if you put it in a container in your mind and think about it, then it seems so silly. But when it strikes, it puts fear in your heart. Ive almost got it whipped.
