Status Update (Intrusive Thoughts)
« on: March 19, 2013, 12:09:33 PM »
So I've been on the Effexor 150mg for just over 2 weeks. Things I feel slowly getting better but sometimes the anxiety does spike a little due to intrusive thoughts.

Do these thoughts just fade away eventually as life moves on and the Effexor continues to build in my system?

Hello,

Glad to hear of the improvement. Although I have no experience with Effexor, I know for myself that there is an "ebb-and-flow" for anxiety . . . it does begin to become less intensive and less frequent, but there can be and, for me, there is times when there are spikes or what I call speed bumps . . . eventually, however, again for me, things do smooth out as your brain chemistry responds to the meds and/or other management strategies. I would imagine that 2 weeks is not a "long" time to allow the brain and the body as a whole to adjust . . . .continue doing what you are doing and be okay with a "slow" progress . . . . sometimes a "fast" progress is not all that more beneficial only because your mind and body does need time to process the changes . . . keep in touch and I am happy for you that your recovery has begun . . .take care, kc

What is the lingering issue to date is that I still wake up with underlying anxiety (which I wasn't having until 2 months ago when the intrusive thoughts abour harm to my family started). When I wake up with this anxiety it REMINDS me of what and how this all started. I am the most easy-going, harmless person you'll ever meet, and I think these intrusive thoughts are what is making this last sooooo long. I feel guilty and a bit of shame, and of course, anxiety that can spike up and down throughout the day.

I have NEVER had any intrusive thoughts like this in all the years I've been married to my wife, and when we were giving my son a haircut in the bathroom an unwanted thought popped in (while I was still going through Effexor withdrawal) and that's when this all started.
