I have just been prescribed fluoxetine hydrochloride, is anybody taking it? How are you finding it? I am scared about starting to take these as i have read some horriable things on the internet

Fluoxetine (Prozac) was one of the first SSRI antidepressants, so its been for a while, nearly 25 years. If it works, and it may not, then it is a pretty good antidepressant, especially for depression. As with all antidepressants it can produce a number of side-effects in the beginning including increased anxiety, but these usually settle down after a couple of weeks. As it is the longest acting of all the antidepressants, it can take a while to kick-in, 4-12 weeks, so patience is needed.

You don't necessarily want to believe what you read, especially about psych drugs as some people find it difficult to distinguish between what is from the med and what from their disorder.
