Anxiety again.
« on: March 18, 2013, 07:34:11 AM »
Hey guys.
Having yet another crappy night, My anxiety has been coming in waves for the last 2 hours. I would so love to not be anxious every night when going to bed. Does anyone else find that their anxiety peaks at certain times? I have all day anxiety but its definitely worse when I'm going to bed. Therapist seemed to think it was due to childhood abuse, I honestly don't know. All I know is that I'm sick of feeling like I'm going to drop dead or thinking that I have a deadly illness. I just want to be 'normal'
Sorry for the vent.

Put on some music. Distract yourself. You know what will happen if you just lay there and do nothing about the anxiety at all? Nothing. Yes. Nothing will happen. Most times we get into a fight with ourselves. Mind versus body. It only makes us worse. But if we do nothing. Well, it tends to just go away. It is a bit like saying ' I give up , do as you must '. Because it is just anxiety it only has certain powers. It is only a bunch of feelings. I know it may feel like bad feelings. The thought of just laying there may scare you. But give it a go. It does work. A night we tend to think a lot more. It is a silent time. It is dark. Hence some music to even help distract your mind.

Mine seems to be worse when I first wake up or if I am home alone. It's the first thing on my mind when I wake up and I just think to myself, "ugh, another day of worrying". Distracting yourself does help even though it may be difficult.

It sounds like you and I are alike, we peak at night.  I think it has something to do with the fact that it's quiet, and I'm alone with my thoughts.  And my aching body.  Usually I'm ok once I'm asleep, but not always.  I really like what Chuchculan said:

You know what will happen if you just lay there and do nothing about the anxiety at all? Nothing. Yes. Nothing will happen.

I also say this about my lawn and mowing it, but that's for another post.  Just know that you are not alone in your suffering and struggles.

With regard to the "peak at certain times" thing i remember a while back (a year or 2 ago) my anxiety attacks would come on like clockwork for a little while. At around 5/6 in the evening. I just focused my mind one night, forgot the time and it didn't come... got out of the routine!

Thanks heaps for all the advice guys. It honestly helps so much to know that there are others out there with similar issues.

I'm having another poop night at the moment so I'm trying some of your ideas. I already sleep with the tv going every night (DVD playing) to distract myself plus I find phone games help a lot. Tonight I'm going to try to just let my anxiety be. Lol Well I'm goin to try anyway.

Hope everyone is having a peaceful night. Xo
