Hello everyone,

I am in Ontario, Canada. I recently went through a mole biopsy on my foot to rule out melanoma, could have been hemangioma but the dermatologist wanted to be sure. So my anixiety is shooting through the roof now because I'm very anxious about the biopsy result. My dermatologist removed it on a Friday 2 weeks ago, and she went out of the country on Monday. She told me usually the biopsy results will take 2 weeks so you gotta wait until that. It was a painful 2 weeks so far, waiting not knowing what

To make it even worse, I can't even call the doctors office cuz the voice mail says the office is closed until this coming Tuesday. If it was open at least I could call and ask in case if the biopsy result has arrived.

Now what I am paranoid is, what if the doctor's office did not send it at all? Because it was removed on a Friday morning, and the doctors office closed that day and will open be opened this Tuesday that is day after tomorrow.

Can a doctors office wait for 2 weeks and then send the removed mole to the histo-pathologist? How do they send it, courier or what?

And how will the result be sent to them? By mail or email? I am just worried if my doctor will say since we closed the same day we took the mole, we will send it today and you have to wait for another 2 weeks. I dont even know if a removed human skin/mole can be kept 2 weeks without sent to the pathologist.

God this biopsy waiting period can make a person depressed.

Please tell me how this works.

The rule of thumb is: the worse the news, the faster it travels. Two weeks is the amount of time it takes most offices to report back on a normal biopsy. Sometimes they don't call at all on those.  But if it's something that needs more attention, you usually hear earlier.

(I know this from experience... my husband and I routinely get moles biopsied. We never hear about the ones that are normal, but they call us about the "dysplastic" ones in less than a week.)

Totally agree with above post.  If it is really bad you find out FAST.  I once got an xray done for pneumonia.  My dr said she would get a hold of me the following week.  I had a message on my machine when I got home from the lab because I did have pneumonia. When something is wrong they don't wait!
