Norovirus
« on: March 17, 2013, 09:15:44 PM »
Pretty sure I caught this in the last 24 hours. Last night my stomach felt so nauseous and I ended up throwing up about 11pm and instantly felt better. My stomach has been churning and felt like someone has punched me in the stomach. I also didn't take my buspar last night or this morning and I am debating taking it now. I had one bout of diarrhea and that was it. Today I have been sleeping on and off like I did last night. Even my bf having his arm on my leg was making me nauseous in my stomach, it was terrible. I didn't eat much today, only fluids and maybe some cereal and crackers. I am already feeling better. I work in a nursing home and I am sure this is where I picked it up. It just scares me bc I always triple glove myself and wash my hands after cleaning up a patients poop! I also read that it is not airborne :/ so I'm worried about how I got it.

Now I am also worried about my buspar bc I haven't been taking it regularly. This week has been insane and I kept forgetting. I'm worried that I'm damaging my body bc of it. Do psych meds do anything if you are off in taking them? If I take it tonight I will make sure I go back on schedule, it has been a crazy week with work and getting sick.

Struggled on and off since I was 13 (27 now) with health anxiety and OCD. Current episode has been going since December 2011. Praying that it will end soon and I can go back to normal life.

How do you know you've got a novovirus?  Could be another type of virus.

As to your meds, just get back on schedule with them.  Glad you're feeling a little better!

A day or two of missed/poorly absorbed meds won't kill you, but stay on track with it to avoid withdrawal side effects :)

Stomach bugs are easy to pick up.  You touch a surface someone with the virus touched, touch your face, boom.

Feel better!

It isn't a great idea to miss doses of your medication. Not familiar with this medication, but you should restart your dosage.

yes, restart your meds!!! I had norovirus and salmonella at the same time. I know, because i had actually dropped a stool culture off 17 hours before i got sick (to test for other things) but it came back i had norovirus and salmonella. I work in a hospital, so yes, i am always around poop and germs, too. Norovirus is really bad this year, we have a ton of people coming in with norovirus type symptoms and it was going around at my work last month, a ton of co-workers got sick with it. I was so sick when i had it, sicker than everybody else, but low and behold, it was prob cause of the salmonella. It started around midnight, and from midnight to 9 am i threw up 12 times and at the same time had liquid diarrhea. Also a fever of 101. The diarrhea continued into the second day. I was fine by the 3rd day, just kind of weak. Then my face broke out in pimples (i never get pimples) but now i'm fine. I've noticed the exact same thing amongst patients, after they get better, they break out in pimples. Very weird how these things work. Everyone else i talked to that had norovirus didn't vomit, or if they did, it was only a couple times. Most of them did not get fevers. But they all had liquid diarrhea. WE work in healthcare so these things just can't be avoided, no matter how clean you try to stay. A positive thing, is that we probably have a strong immunity since we are exposed to so much crap. But yes, you will be fine, and restart your meds :)

Thank you! Made me feel a ton better. Live laugh love, are you an RN? That is what I will be studying to be soon as soon as I find out where I am accepted.

Feeling a lot better now. Still the appetite is not up to par but hopefully soon. No more nausea or anything. I hate getting sick! Even if its mild, it still gives me a lot of anxiety. It throws me off my rational mind for some reason. Now I have to slowly work my way back there.
