I can't stand this anymore.
« on: March 17, 2013, 07:54:06 PM »
I thought I'd finally shaken off my health worries for a while, but I started to think about my heart and the possibility of heart disease.. I'm only eighteen and am reasonably active and I don't smoke or anything like that.. so that fear started to wain, but then I thought there's a family history of Deep Vein Thrombosis in the family, both my mum and nan had it, my mum when she had it was mid thirties, they are fine now however, but then I started to think, it'd be likely that I'm going to get it, and now all I can feel is pain in my arms and my legs, and then I kept thinking of how I sit when I'm gaming and I then read about a twenty year old who died from it, for sitting too long while gaming. I just can't take this anymore, all of this. I can't find it in me to go to the doctors because of my social anxiety and when I mention it to my mum or nan they just brush it off and tell me to pull myself together.
I feel like I am breaking, stuck in this loop of hell and I don't know what to do anymore. I just want it to stop.

Maybe you should seek professional help for your anxiety because no one is going to be able to talk you out of your fear. That's probably why talking to your family about it is nit helping. Your young so you want to aggressively take a hold of this condition before it becomes worse and ruins your life. Obsessive thoughts do not get better. They only get worse. You are not going to outgrow this nor can you pull yourself together from it.

I am sure you are already aware that no one knows the future. You don't know if you will have this disease in the future or not. For now, you are too young and wasting your time thinking about something that will most likely never even happen to you. Your already sentencing yourself to years of pain and struggle and you dont even have that disease. Even if you do get it, the treatment and recovery from it will be less time than what your putting yourself through right now, while still healthy.

Become proactive in tackling your mental illness now.

I live with DVT.
I was diagnosed in 1999. I was in my 30's.
I was told because of a blood clotting issue. I had been on low dose estrogen.
I didn't think anything of it as both my sisters at one or another had been on BCP.
What you have to look at is your homocystine levels. There are other clotting issues that have to be taken into consideration too. Yes sitting in one position for too long can be a precursor but so can hormones. Also pressurization in airplanes and not moving around can be a cause.
If you are concerned see a doctor and then they can suggest a vascular doctor and then do a dopplar.
Perhaps get some compression stockings (it helps with the blood flow). I wear a very strong tight pair but that is because I have had DVT. There are lighter compression at the grocery store or the drug stores. They are not cheap though. (a pair of mine are about 90.00--but then like I said you might need a light compression just for peace of mind).
Is your extremity red and hot and swollen? That was the biggest clue to me that something was wrong.
My two sisters have not had this and we have the same parents. I have 6 younger siblings and I have a certain factor that  precludes clotting with certain hormones.
Just because other family members have had something does not mean that you are destined for the same route.
There are some vitamins that help in blood thinning-- Vitamin e, fish oils and magnesium and all the B vitamins.
Now these supplements should be tailored to your situation so seeing a doctor first is the best thing I can tell you. Also drinking water helps. I was on blood thinners for 2 1/2 yrs and I would not wish that on another person. I have to manage the blood flow and thinning in other ways with the blessing of my own doctor.
So my first suggestion is see your doctor about the blood testing for clotting factors and then go from there.
