So much tension and aching in my neck and head, please help
« on: March 17, 2013, 07:26:20 PM »
I've had anxiety for 2 years now, it feels like i am pretty much constantly in fight or flight, it takes tremendous energy to relax. Day in and day out (with some brief periods of relief thank goodness, or i would really would go mad) i have this weird ache in the back of my neck (like its strained) my head can feel like a bowling ball and there's a weird tension/aching in the back of my head. Sometimes its on the top of my head to the right (which i'm told is where sinuses are located) The neck and head aching is not overly painful but its very debilitating anyway. I feel weak and fatigued when it hits and sometimes it affects my eyes too, and theres a pressure/ache behind my eyes. Its almost unbearable in fluroscent lighting. The sensations also make me very irritable.

Can anyone relate?  I'm under a huge amount of stress, so wonder if its just all stress. Has anyone experienced/is currently experiencing these symptoms and what helps? I'm desperate, thanks.

I started getting monthly massages... Not enough, but it helps

You should try stretch therapy and some sort of expertise activity to strengthen your neck muscles. I swear it worked for me.

Definately can relate. I also used to get an electric zapping sensation at the back of my head. When the anxiety calmed down I saw an osteo who manipulated the muscles in my neck. Turns out when i was stressed my neck muscles carry the bulk of it & thats what caused the sensations like what your experiencing.

Since youve said your under stress i would definatly lean towards that as a contributing factor. Maybe see an osteo for muscle release. People just dont realise that for peeps with anxiety relaxing can be quite a task

Worrying about the future won't change it, it will only change our joy in the present.

I get all kinds of tension in my neck. I'd get spasms all the time. I saw a chiro this weekend. Go a massage and an adjustment..feels much better.
