Weird feeling. Anxiety?
« on: March 17, 2013, 02:59:41 PM »
So its been a few months now I've has this dull ache around right clavicle. Sometimes ill get a somewhat shooting pain up my neck but usually the dull ache just persists. It feels like my inner ear is aching & theres a lump in my throat on the right side. Sometimes when i breath in it feels like a cold sensation up the same side on my neck. Over a year ago I had an ultrasound of that region as an osteopath noticed slight swelling of my clavicle which came back as just a superficial subclavian artery which they said was probably always like that & no cause for concern. I am however worried about these other sensations as they don't feel anxiety related ( possibly  tjust my anxiety telling me that) .

Im really worried as to what it could be. I had palpitations the other week which i felt all up my neck so i saw my gp who took my pulse & said my heart rate was normal but he gave me an ECG just to be sure which came back borderline low blood pressure. Of coarse this made me worry as i was confused how the blood pressure machine & the ECG could give such different readings in a matter of minutes of each other ::)  I know anxiety can play havoc with our emotions and cause symptoms of just about anything but Im stressing that because these are constantly there ( differing in intensity)  that its something else.

I dont want to go back to the doctors & have more tests if its most likely anxiety related as Its pointless but dont know what. Should do...... Please help

Since you've had the testing, I think it's important to put your faith in the results at this point.

You're probably focusing on this too much and giving it more power - hence, causing additional anxiety.

Hey, I'm not a doctor but ill tell you what I know. I've had heart palpitations also and my doctor advised that it is quite a normal thing. It happens to most woman. As far as low blood pressure goes, if your doctor isn't concerned enough to put you onto medication It must not be something to worry about. If you continue to worry you can always get a blood pressure montior from the chemist. Keeping in mind you don't want to become to obsessed with checking like I did.
I hope that helps.  :happy0151:

Hello,

I am not a med professional, but as someone who, because of thyroid issues, had blood pressure and pulse readings all over the map within minutes, I can tell you that it is not unusual for your blood pressure to change significantly between testing. For that reason, blood pressure is best looked at over a period of time when readings are taken at the same time more or less of the day. Then, the average gives you an idea of your baseline for your blood pressure.

What I would suggest, though, is that you consult a medical practitioner to have the results of the ECG explained to you so you understand what the test results mean rather than treading emotional water trying to figure them out. For example: a blood pressure gauge and an ECG are two different tools that look at different types of input . . . ECG based on electrical impulses and blood pressure based on frequency of blood pulsing through a major vein. In other words, they both look at different but complementary aspects. As the person who is obviously in a state of anxiety over the meanings of the tests and the results, you need to get centered so you understand them from reality brain's perspective rather than letting anxiety brain create unrealistic intepretations for you.

As LindaRK says, I am also pretty sure that had the doctor seen anything on the tests, that s/he would have followed up. But, you also need to ask questions so that anxiety brain is not given the opportunity to create issues for you. So, my suggestion would be: either accept that the symptoms are anxiety related or, contact your doctor for a fuller explanation and, if the cause is not physical, then ask for a referral to a counselor to help to guide you to develop management techniques. In either case, though, let us know how you are doing because most of us, if not all, know how debilitating your situation can be when you don't have a strong answer to your concerns . . .take care, kc
