Migraines
« on: March 17, 2013, 10:25:16 AM »
Hello, i haven't been here in a while! And i wish i wasn't here today. ( No offence, you know what i mean  ::) )

for the past 10 years (or so) i have suffered from migraines with aura. They are pretty standard. Aura for 30+ minutes then headache and nausea. However due to migraleve i have managed to stop the headache and sickness after the visual aura. This was a great relief and made me feel lucky to have the visual aura as almost a warning sign so i can get ahead of the pain. Even though the aura itself is unpleasant... And it was nice to know that simple non-prescription meds would do the trick!

However the past 2 years my migraines have changed? I still get the usual ones, but i also get different ones. They come and go within about a minute or so and they are not as intense. I have no headache or nausea after either. They seem to cover both eyes and start from the bottom of my eyes.... i see the usual flashing lights and some sparkles and other stuff, you know, the usual. And sometimes some pressure around my eyes/nose area... But i was just wondering if your migraines can change or if it is possible to have 2 types of migraines?

Side note : Most of the time, when i get these, i am reading off my laptop screen, watching tv, or i have opened the curtains and a minute or two later it comes on. So perhaps a light disturbance? Or a strain situation? I mean one time i woke up and looked at my phone straight away and BAM i got one. (Granted, it doesn't happen every time. I can go weeks/months without one) Also, i suffer with sinus problems were and there (ears ringing, nose hurting, head feeling full, mucus (grim, sorry) etc) And i was wondering if this could perhaps trigger them?

I have done a bit of research and read about silent (acephalgic) migraines. Which seem like they may be the problem. They have been going on for 2 years now and they haven't got any more intense so im less worried about them then i was. And it helps that i have read that many people who get acephalgic migraines are often people who get normal migraines. So it would kind of make sense that this is definitely migraine of sorts and nothing else...

However, me being me, i do get scared when they happen and my health anxiety kicks in and i think i have something serious wrong with me. The anxiety is something i would like to touch on. When my anxiety was at it's peak is when these "acephalgic" migraines (or whatever they are) began. And when i say at it's peak i mean around the same time i was constantly worrying, panic attacks and depersonalizatoion. (fun!) And then these started. I was wondering if this could have triggered a change? I mean, i don't expect to come out of pretty bad panic without anything to show for it. I'm just wondering if anxiety can trigger, perhaps, hormonal changes? or something else? I don't know, so i thought i'd ask! It just seems interesting that these visual things started around 2 years ago when my anxiety was peaking.

I still have anxiety and go back and forth with good and bad days as im sure many of you do, but i hope you understand my story and can give me some guidance perhaps?

you have just described what has been happening to me for the past couple years! this mostly happens to me when I'm on my cellphone at night time. I never really worry to much about it because I've had it for a long time and it usually only happens when I'm staring at a screen. have you ever heard of computer vision syndrome? maybe that's what it is. :P

My migraines have changed a lot over the years, so I assume it just happens sometimes.  I don't know if different triggers might have something to do with how a migraine presents (I only get visual auras with light triggers, so maybe it works that way on a larger scale, no idea), but maybe that's it.  Or just one of those things.  I wouldn't worry, though.
