How do you stop fearing anxiety symptoms?

Hi everyone, after several months of high alert anxiety and subsequent health anxiety I've been having lots of different physical symptoms. Most I've written about on previous posts. The main ones are muscle and finger twitching, finger/lip numbness, perceived weakness and various aches and pains. I've been diagnosed with post natal depression (sadly lost a set of twins late on). Seen a psychiatrist and have very recently been put on serotonin antidepressants. I keep getting random symptoms - mostly when I'm highly anxious. The problem is its like a cycle as when I get a symptom I freak out and the creaking out causes the symptoms. (I hope unless there is an underlying illness). How can I stop being afraid and living in fear of these symptoms? I keep thinking they won't stop. Live every day being petrified.

I'm so sorry for your losing your little babies.  that is so devastating.  I had a friend lose her daughter at 37wks.  I had another friend lose her daughter to trisomy 18 (or 21)--not the down's one but a more severe trisomy.  I had two miscarriages back to back in '93.  So my heart goes out to you.  This something nobody should have to go through.


so how do you stop fearing the symptoms?   well take a look at it like this...............  what have the symptoms actually done to you?  have they killed you?  have the progressed to disability?  In other words what horrible things have happened as a result of the twitching etc, etc,?  See you are still alive and kicking.  one thing that is a must to KNOW anxiety affects a body physically.  AND one must learn that dealing with the fear is what gets one better.

meds help for some issues and I believe are quite helpful to those with post partum depression and anxiety.  I took them after two of my births and It helped. it didn't solve it all, but it helped.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Thank you sixpack for your kind words and really helpful advice. I'm going to try to accept the symptoms as part of what my brain is feeling. Like u say I'm still here!!
Letting go of the fear really is key. Easier said than done but I'm going to try. It really has been a horrendous time, I lost the baby boys at 32 weeks, just when we'd thought we'd passed the risky phase of a shared placenta pregnancy. I never thought I could feel the way I do. It's been a scary place x

I used to be just like this, but by filing my life with a positive bunch of stuff, I have overcome these fears. I have a loving relationship, I exercise EVERY DAY, and I eat well. I also work in school and in my job. All those things help my mental state.
Give it a shot. Try to add positive, good things into your life. Good luck :)

Thank you! I also work in a school and it has helped being back as keeps me busy. I'm trying to get back into my hobbies too which includes exercise. I'll keep trying x

Keep trying. In October 2012, I was ready to jump off a bridge -- no I'm not kidding.
Now, through dedication to my life, I feel 100000000000000000000000000000000x better. There IS hope. NEVER EVER give up.
