Sharing how I have improved my anxiety..
« on: March 16, 2013, 01:52:20 PM »
Hi, I wanted to share with you guys something that has DRASTICALLY improved my anxiety. First off I am 26yrs old, married, and have a baby. For the past 6months I have endured AWFUL health anxiety. It sparked after a death in the family. When it first hit- I went to the doctor she did blood work told me I was healthy and I had generalized anxiety that was probably just sparked after a death in the family. Ok-makes sense. I was put on Xanax and Zoloft and after a couple months removed myself from them-it just wasn't worth it. I will also mention that I am a Christian I went to get counseling from my pastor and had lots of support but it didn't stop the fearing of everything.
Over the time of stressing out over my health I developed IBS, TMJ, adrenal fatigue. I am a fit 26 year old and couldn't exercise, I lost all enjoyment going out with my husband, cooking, really everything. I just wanted to be on the computer and research my "illnesses." I then got acid reflux and took gluten out of my diet HOPING that might be the cause of my anxiety. That didn't work. Well, before I knew it depression started setting in. My husband took me out to lunch and wanted me to get on some meds again and he said he would pay for anything to get me better. I was miserable. I have thought I had a million different illnesses! It started out I thought I had lymphoma to leukemia MS, ALS, Parkinsons, hypothyroidism, addison's disease, melanoma, brain tumor, brain cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, and brain tumor agian (that is the hardest one for me not to worry about.) So for the reflux I did a treatment of Prilosec and 2 weeks after EVEN after avoiding the trigger foods I was still getting acid reflux SO- I got back on the computer and saw Candida Overgrowth. I had a lot of the symptoms but I ignored it because I didn't really have ALL of them and couple of the main symptoms were Thrush and Vaginal yeast infections. Well, I was having re-occurring sinus infections and low and behold I started getting yeast infections. So, I went back to that and decide to see how I could figure out if that was it. All it takes is a spit test at home in a cup of water and my cup showed I had an overgrowth. I decided to treat it- I did read a lot of stuff online that stated how the test can not be accurate but I chose to ignore and proceed. The treatment is a crazy insane diet of low carbs and NO sugar...and by low carbs--seriously low carbs. Your diet is mainly protein and vegetables. I have always had bad craving for carbs and sugar my whole life and it was getting more intense lately. The first few days on the diet I felt AMAZING. I was energetic, not worrying, happy, just felt like my old self-then I got really bad. I had the worst anxiety ever and was just feeling ill (I was going pretty hardcore with trying to kill the candida yeast and it was a just a die-off symptom which is normal) So, I backed off taking my coconut oil (my all natural anti-fungal) and drank lots of liver detox tea (I do not drink alcohol- it was just help get the dead yeast out) and am back to feeling 100%. I really know that candida  was the cause of all my problems and probably have had it my whole life. I have had 2 miscarriages in the last year and the gyno didn't know why because my blood work was perfect and everything seems suitable for a pregnancy to prosper but I was never tested for candida overgrowth. It is not something that doctors acknowledge or test for because they think you have to have cancer or a surpressed immune system to get it (not true). If you go online there are tons of people that suffer from it. It is hard to overcome because the diet is strict but in a few weeks I feel really good and just wanted to share it with you all, my husband is doing the diet with me. He is a firefighter and not very symptomatic but, he did the spit test and it showed a yeast overgrowth to. He is seeing improvements with his energy as well. I will mention as a side note that my brother did the spit test (he is 16) and his was fine. So, I do believe the test is accurate. If anyone wants any info on how to get started or to do the test please PM me. I really think that a lot more people have it than they think. I seriously feel really good and my main symptom was anxiety. I hope this helps and sorry for the long post.

I think it's great when someone is able to correlate a true physical issue contributing to their anxiety and address it successfully.  That being said, perhaps you could share your dietary regimen here instead of having to pm you for it. Hopefully, what you have been through can help someone.  About 25 years ago, out of sheer desperation, I saw an alternative health provider and was tested for Candida but it came back negative .... rats! LOL

I know it would have been nice if my anxiety had organic fix.  Me?  yeah I know it was always my perfectionistic/type a personality.  been this way all my life.  My mom told stories of me when I was little about me fretting I was perfect on a test or other such nonsense.  lol and sigh.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

sixpack- I know this won't work for everyone. I do have a type A personality but my anxiety has been debilitating. I went from clean freak to emotionally and physically it being a complete struggle to take a shower. I do think some people might benefit.

LindaRK- I am sorry to hear about your negative Candida test. This diet is not only for someone suffering from Candida, if your hormones are out of whack (which can also cause a multitude of symptoms like anxiety and depression) it can help get things in balance. There is a good book, "It's not you, it's your hormones" and it recommends a similar diet. Your diet can play a huge role in this and really take a look at your diet, do you eat a lot of carbs and sugar?

My diet consists of this and I believe I am about 3 weeks in so, improvement comes quickly. You know soon on if this helps you or not.
Breakfast: Eggs, Gluten Free Sausage. I switch it up and do 1/4 cup of plain gluten free oatmeal or oat bran. NO FRUIT is allowed until your symptoms are gone and you can incorporate some.
Lunch: Salad- grilled chicken or steak salad, with guacamole or you can make a really simple salad dressing. You cannot buy store bought dressing it all contains sugar.
Dinner: I started off doing a protein of my choice with a side of vegetable. You cannot have starching vegetable like potatoes, or vegetables that contain high amounts of sugar like beets, carrots, peas, cabbage...etc.

That is a good start. I use the website www.thecandidadiet.com; it helps you get started. I highly recommend trying...I saw improvement within 2 days.

Thank you for sharing! It's definitely something I will look into. The fruit part would be difficult, though.

I stopped taking my hormonal birth control several weeks ago in hopes of cutting down anxiety and headaches. So far, so good. I still feel anxious, but its certainly an improvement.

The fruit part is hard but it can be incorporated back into your diet. Birth control can cause you to develop a candida overgrowth so definitely look into. Seriously, I encourage people to try it for a week and see how it helps you.
