Signs, they follow me everywhere :(
« on: March 15, 2013, 08:44:43 PM »
I have been trying to get a handle on my anixety. I have tried self talk and praying and deep breathing. I take my meds religiously. But Jesus, the "signs" are literally making me go insane. My one and only real HA fear is Lung Cancer. I am a 29 year old former 1 to 2 pack a day smoker for 15+ years. I stopped about 4 months ago. Everywhere I go, I hear LC. And tonight, I added a girl to my social networking site that I adopted a rescue puppy out too. First post: My mom has LC, stage 3b. OMG. SERIOUSLY? It is like God is showing me signs, so he can prepare me. I am so sick of my HA brain, and the signs :'( I am so tired of it being thrown into my face. I can't catch a break.

With the small world as the Internet you are going to be hit with them. Why do you automatically think it is a sign you are going to get or have LC? Maybe it is to show you that you have anxiety while others have the true diaease. Also I notice that when I focus on something the more I see it in my world.

For instance, we got a new/used car. I never noticed many on the road before. Now...they are everywhere. Turn your negative thoughts around. Why does it mean if you read it or hear about it that you are being prepared? Maybe instead it is reminding you to be grateful you do have good health, but suffer from anxiety.

This is pretty normal actually - your brain is just choosing to focus on what is tormenting you right now.

I remember when I was pregnant - every single time.  It was like everybody in the world was pregnant! LOL!  Not to make light of what you're feeling, but as I said - you're focusing on this right now, so, of course, it will seem like the signs are everywhere.

My fear is heart related and I must see hundreds of heart attack commercials a day!  I think it is just because we focus on it more!  I feel ya though!

Thanks guys :( I just don't know how much longer I can take this... Her mom just turned 40. That is so young. I am just so sad for her, and selfishly for myself. I pray tomorrow is better for me, and that her mom beats it. I wish I could think it is God's way of showing me to be grateful for being healthy, it is just, it doesn't work that way in my mind. I hate HA.

There are no signs, you're just noticing it more because it is constantly on your mind. You had clear chest x-rays a few months ago, you do not have lung cancer, you're fine :)

the "signs"  are just magical thinking that is part and parcel of anxiety disorders.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

As my therapist says why do you believe the negative signs, but not the ones that say "Hey!! You are goingbtomein the lottery!"? She then goes on to say because you know that is stupid, magical thinking and so is believing the negative all the time.

Thanks y'all. I know it is illogical for me to think like that, and I get so dag on frustrated at myself because logically I know that these probably aren't some future predictors of me getting lung cancer...I really just wish I could catch a break. I wish I never saw/heard/ or think about LC ever again!

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I am so tired of all the "cancer centers of america" commercials that seems to point out all the cancers of the world. Do not get me wrong, I know they are there to help people but geesh it seems their commercial is own every few minutes.  I also hate all the lawyer commercials about this cancer or that cancer. It seems like everything on the planet causes cancer.  Its terrible for someone with HA let alone someone with cancer HA, which I have badly. It seems like all these commercials are screaming you will get cancer no matter what. Then it seems like theres always one famous person a day dying with cancer in the news. We are surrounded by it. So yes it starts looking like the signs are everywhere.  :traurig001:

I apologize for going off. I have nothing against hospitals or even lawyers, its just scary.  :(  I am trying to get past my own "cancer" flare up right now.  So I apologize if I offended anyone. I just had to vent a little.
