Please I really need some advice its serious
« on: March 15, 2013, 02:07:03 PM »

This post might have TMI so I am so sorry if it offends.
In January of this year I had some blood in the toilet with a bowel movement, of corse I freaked and went to the ER, there I was diagonsed with an anal fissure. Ok so then I was referred to a specialist who said they would do a colonoscopy to make me feel better because of my anxiety. ( thats for April 3) ok in the mean time I have been so constipated that its sometimes hard to pass gas. I went to the hospital and they did a fecal occult blood test and that was negitive for blood, I had blood work done and it all came back good, I had a cancer tumor marker CEA that checks for colon cancer and that came back negitive and I also had a abdominal x ray and it showed no blockage. My issue is this I cant go to the bathroom without a laxitive, I have no appitie, I lost 5 pounds in the last while I have a slight ache in my left side about rib level. I am so scared its colon cancer. Please has anyone had anything similar happen and it turned out ok???

Are you getting enough fiber in your diet?  Do you drink enough fluids, especially water?  How is your diet overall?  Amazingly, enough, it can be something this simple to correct to get you back to regularly with BM's.  It's definitely not healthy to rely on taking a laxative to go to the bathroom.

As to the anal fissure - those and internal and external hemerroids can cause bleeding.  That as well, can have something to do with diet.

I agree with the above post, water and fiber are definitely good for bowel health.  Laxatives can be really harsh on your GI tract and bowel, maybe try colace/ Miralax daily and start to wean yourself off the laxatives.

Also, stress and anxiety can lend to constipation.  Also not having an appetite.  When my health anxiety was at it's worst I lost 15 lbs in less than two weeks because I just had zero appetite.  Anxiety definitely affects appetite....and if you're not eating or eating very little, you will lose weight...sometimes it can drop off a lot faster than you may think it can.

The pain in your upper lift rib is probably caused from being constipated, maybe even from constant use of laxatives...yes you can feel the pain all the way up there!

Also, I have had an anal fissure for a couple years now.  It does suck, but they are benign, nothing to worry about...especially since the doc gave you the ok!

Constipation can cause anal fissures and aggravate hemorrhoids, by the way...  you may just not be eating enough veggies or drinking enough water.

I had my first "blood in toilet" scare 10 years ago....my mom (who had HA aswell) sent me straight to have an colonoscopy....it showed nothing.   But I was costipated for a looong time after that...i think it was because I was afraid to go to the toilet...afraid of bleeding again:/

Since the birth of my son 2 years ago i started bleeding on and off again.  GP says its hemerroids.   I just had my second colonoscopy and again it showed nothing.  I asket the specialist about a 1000 times if he coukd be SURE i didnt have CC...and his answer was YES.    If you were to have a tumor in your colon, big enough to make you constipated it would deffinetly show in a colonoscopy and I would guess you would see a blockage like that on an x-ray as well....
