For those of you on Zoloft - how many mg?
« on: March 15, 2013, 01:49:14 PM »
I've been taking 50mg per day for about 9 months now. I think it keeps my anxiety and depression regulated but it hasn't been extremely effective in my opinion. I am going through a very anxious time right now and my dr. increased by dosage to 100mg per day. I am wondering what I can expect from this and how long it will take to notice a difference. Anyone not see results with 50mg?

50mg is the minimum effective dose and while a few find this enough, most take 100-150mg and some need the recommended maximum 200mg, occasionally a little more. There's not much point in taking a drug at a dose that is ineffective. With antidepressants there is some evidence that doing so increases the odds of it pooping-out.

Upping the dose may cause some initial side-effects similar to what you experienced when you first took Zoloft. They should diminish more rapidly however. I suggest you take 75mg for a week then go up to 100mg.

NOTE: I'm not a doctor, and particularly not yours, so there may be factors I'm unaware of. Therefore all advice is of a general nature and you should consult your doctor before following any of it, especially before changing med doses.
