tell me about swollen lymph npdes...
« on: March 14, 2013, 08:33:30 PM »
I have never been a lymph node worrier, until I came across two small pea size lumps at the back of my neck on one side only. Theyvery pronounced. Tyey wweren'twasn't tender but tuthey are now I've been xoking and prodding them. There is definitely nothing like it on the other side. They are quite hard. They must be lymoh nodes. I am trying so hard not to Google. How so I know of it's cancerous?

I remember the first time i noticed this on myself, it really freaked me out, but dont be alarmed! it is natural for the lymph nodes to swell when fighting infection, that is their job. If it start turning colors or doesn't go away in a week or so (or the bump go down) then it might be worth getting it checked out.

I was talk to someone who found the same type of nodes in the back of their head and got them checked out. Low and behold, the doctor said that it is very rare for those types of nodes to be a certain size because of something sinister. Also, just because you discovered a node doesn't mean it's swollen some are just are certain size.

If you are really worried, get yourself checked out. I think you're okay. I have the same type of node that sits on the back of my hairline. I was scared but after three years I'm still kicking! haha

Good luck :D

Thanks guys. I have had an awful night of panic attacks worrying about this. I actually feel like there are three or four of these lumps.one is on my earlobe and I thought it was a spot but now I think they are all cancerous nodes.

How so I know of it's cancerous?

The short answer is to see a doctor! That is how you will know.

The problem of the anxiety surrounding it, however, can be alleviated through CBT techniques and maybe a few reassuring words. I too have pronounced lymph nodes in the back of my neck. They have been there for years and become more pronounced under times of physical or mental stress. Moreover, I have had HUGE lymph nodes in my throat for the past 9 months now. My tonsils are constantly massive and my throat is incredibly lumpy to touch. Moral of the story: lymph nodes fluctuate significantly and have a lot of operations. Swelling is certainly a normal reaction, especially when there are certain addition factors such as stress or viral/bacterial/fungal pathology (i.e. you're trying to fight something off).
