Been back to the gynaecologist.
« on: March 14, 2013, 01:25:05 AM »
Well I went back today and he went through all my test results. They were mostly normal though my endometrium was a bit thick, though he didn't seem too concerned, he said it was just within normal limits. He said the only way to be sure there was nothing sinister going on was to do a procedure under a general anaesthetic where they scrape the womb lining then send it off to pathology but he didn't really feel it was necessary, just if I wanted it. I declined for now, deciding to see how it goes and he seemed ok with that. He decided that it the most likely cause was that I'm 48 (yes he finally admitted that the periods at least were probably hormonal though he's still doubtful about the night sweats).

I came away feeling worried still though, the fact that my endometrium was a bit thick worries me that I might get dangerously heavy bleeding during up and coming periods and also the fact that he said the only way to detect cancer was this scrape and it wouldn't have shown up on the ultrasound.

So all in all I'm still worried.

I told you that I have seen my gyn for the same reasons (long periods etc..) and I also told you that she was not concerned at all. She said we all have funky periods every once in a while and certainly more so when we get older. She didn't even think I needed an ultrasound. However, she also said that the only way to be sure is a biopsy, but she didn't want me to do it (yet).
So what I am trying to say is they always say what the options are but it doesn't mean there is anything lingering.
If you didn't have health anxiety, a funny period and night sweat would even be worth a should shrug. Seriously. You are ok.

Thanks. I do worry about endometrial hyperplasia as my endometrium is thick and this is related to cancer. I think this makes me more worried now than I was before o_O.

You are MORE worried now? How is that possible? You have had lots of testing done recently and they have all come out fine. You have been to the doctor quite a bit. You  have a gyne who should have a clue about how a woman's body works, but has proven to be out of touch. You have had many women on this site share their experiences with you about the menopausal process. You said the doctor said that the only way to be sure nothing sinister was going on was to have the scraping procedure? Was he responding to YOUR continued concerns about having cancer? If he thought there was a chance you had cancer he would SAY you NEED this procedure. A doctor can only go by what he hears from the patient.  If you continue to believe that sweating at night is cancer related, you will continue to see doctors to find the cancer you believe you have. Do you have to change your pajamas and bed sheets when you have the night sweats? True night sweats will soak you, not just make you sweaty. At some point you need to accept that you are fine and get off the HA crazy train.
