I just really wish she was at least a little more concerned about this.  Like I actually said to her "what if it's a brain tumor?"  And her answer was "well then it's a brain tumor."  I was devastated when she said that.

maybe she realizes that a twitch is JUST a twitch and a headache is most often JUST a headache.  If I went to the doctor every time I twitched or headache or an ache or pain,,,,  then I would be there 5X a week.

and, btw,  any brain tumor once it becomes large enough to impede brain function, CAUSE symptoms.   Early symptoms may be different from one person to another based not on type tumor but on location of the tumor.

caribou----what are you doing to deal with this sort of catastrophic thinking.  I know this is the third time I asked, but it is an important one.  I mean if you want to have your faulty thinking to stop running your life, it is important....

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

I am very sorry about my worry over my mom, I just don't want anything bad to happen to her - ever.

But one way I've been trying to deal with my over thinking is to keep telling myself - what are the odds of something like that happening.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

For example I thought I actually had colon cancer even though I'm only 19...I know that's bizarre but hear me out.  I was having such terrible symptoms that I really thought that was it.  But I just had to keep telling myself that at 19, chances of colon cancer are slim to none.  While it's never been unheard of, it certainly is not common.  And I eventually got over that.

sounds like your fix to your over thinking is to  out think a fear.  then out think the next fear... then go about life until the next fear shows up.  then you are back to "out thinking" the fear.     I get what you are doing but it isn't really a feasible fix to anxiety disorders.

check out this link below.  it is my usual stuff that I suggest.  within the link are other links that you should have a look at.  maybe this can give you a jump start to getting your anxious over thinking under control.

here is a newer thread of mine that may be of help.

things can get better for you once you start some very good proactive habits.

good luck

That...actually seems like a really sane, healthy response to me.  Worrying about something doesn't change what it is, and the odds are that it ISN'T a brain tumor, so why obsess?

I would  be the same way if it were my mom (I HAVE been obsessing about my mom's health lately, as a matter of fact), but that doesn't mean it's a healthy way to be.  (Actually, if anyone's thought patterns sound like mine it's usually an indicator that they're not thinking straight :P )  I understand your concerns.  No one wants to lose a parent, ever, especially not at a young age.  But we can't live their lives for them.  I have to accept that my mom is only going to go to the doctor every few years if she can possibly avoid it.  She's 70 now.  With luck I'll have her around for another 15 years or so (basing it on her current health and her parents' lifespans).  But she's not going to live forever; none of us will.  Enjoy your life with your mother instead of worrying about her death, because hell, any one of us could be hit by a car or crushed by a falling piano any time.

when I went to my doc I mentioned that I had a lower eye twitch that came out of no where and lasted two weeks. he was very sure it was nothing and it does happen and will go away in time and sure enough it did. fyi I don't drink much caffeine so it can happen without being hopped up on coffee
