For women! Anxiety with pms Birth Control med!?!

Just wondering if anyone is on an AD and still have moments like before your time...Anxiety gets worse or better mood swings exct? I am wondering if anyone is on a birth control to help or not helping with this? I would love to get rid of my period monthly Then maybe I couldbe little more stabe with moods.?. Anyone take birth control? How has it helped or not helped you?

Hormonal fluctuations can affect anxiety levels. It is probably the main reason many more women than men have anxiety disorders. However, taking oral contraceptives may or may not help. You should discuss this with your doctor.

I definately have an elevated level of anxiety right before that time of the month. I used to take the pill and it  helped quite a bit.. Actually, thinking back... I didn't start having the anxiety around that time of the month until I stopped the pill..

When I was taking BC, I didn't really notice any extra anxiety than normal.  All I know is that my blood pressure was going up.  I tried getting off of Ativan (I've been on it more than a year so I'm dependent on it now) and things went wacky from there.  I got off of the BC bc of the high BP.  So, now, I take BP meds and just try to chill out and play mah jong to get my stress levels down.

i've tried a bunch of HBC's out there, and most have made my anxiety and depression worse unfortunately. my most recent doc suggested paraguard, which is a non-hormonal IUD. he said it's a mix of the thirds: 1/3 will get better with BC, 1/3 worse and 1/3 same.

but my anxiety starts increasing around ovulation, and peaks the day of my actual period. i have panic and everything. it is NOT fun, but you are NOT alone, rest assured. can you increase your SSRI by a little with your doc's approval around ovulation to see if that helps with the anxiety?

last bit...i've heard that progestin only BC makes it all worse. so maybe stay away from that, and tri-phasics. good luck!

i did not get the paragard- i am also anemic, and haven't had any children, so quite frankly i was afraid of 2 things: 1) paragard is known to cause heavier bleeding and i didn't want to risk my anemia with that and 2) i'm terrified of the insertion since i've not had children. so i'm still on the BC quest myself.
