Panicked about a bump.
« on: March 13, 2013, 11:26:12 AM »
I've had this small white bump near the corner of my eye for what feels like forever. It is very small, and almost looks like a whitehead. It has never bothered me, there has never been any pain, it has never increased in size or changed in color. But I made the error of google searching, and now I'm worried that it's something more serious. One site said to have it looked at if it hasn't gone away after a couple weeks. And I feel like I've had it for months.. perhaps even longer. Perhaps it could be a skin tag? I'm freaking myself out over this bump that has never bothered me before..

I get thos all the time. Its a calcium deposit. If you break the skin over it, it will pop out and be a tiny little calcium ball.

I've had those, too .....

Or, it could be milia which are keratin-filled cysts.

Either way, both are harmless.

By the way - skin tags are generally harmless as well. :-)

I would like to add that if you google this, is might come up as scleroderma or autoimmune disorder ...... pay no mind to that.

My dad and his family had this - I'm assuming it's genetic, since I and my brothers have it.  My dad lived to be 93 and it was NEVER a problem.  Same with other members of his family.

Just wanted to head this off if you decide to google.

I agree with Linda. A few people in my family get these as well. Calcium deposits and skin tags.

I have something like that too. But mine is a weird little cyst thingy. It won't pop. It doesn't really hurt, but its about the size of a white head. I'd say, go to a dermatologist.
