Racing thoughts
« on: March 13, 2013, 11:03:12 AM »
Alright so I've been having trouble with calming my mind at night. Last night I was having trouble falling to sleep but after a while was able to fall asleep. I woke up to my mind going haywire. A song kept playing repeatedly in my head and as strange as it sounds it woke me up. Sometimes I would wake up to making critical decisions or solving a problem that I was experiencing the day before. Has this ever happened to anyone? And I was wondering if there was a good way to stop my mind from going crazy with thoughts at nigh so I can sleep.

Hello! One of the things that helped me out some times is relaxation music. I bought a cheap 3 piece computer speaker set and mounted the speakers to the headboard with double sided tape and subwoofer under the bed. Also when you are trying to get to sleep, play a game in your head picking a theme like fruit, vegies, or bands and then going thru the alphabet letter by letter and name one thing in the theme. This uses a part of your brain that initiates kind of an exhaustion feeling. Like reading a physics book in bed. Hope that helps a bit, not a switch but it works for me sometimes...

My roommate had a problem similar to yours.  She used to stop listening to music after 6pm, never listened to anything that might get stuck in her head, and slept with a loud fan for white noise.  Later we found that part of the problem was that her feet were cold.  Once I got her to wear socks to bed, she stopped having as much insomnia.
