cold, missing school
« on: March 13, 2013, 11:00:20 AM »
What is a medicine which will shorten a cold/ something to eat which will reduce the lenght of a cold? I have sore throat, stuffed nose, and feel cold/ tingling everywhere if I move.  :sick0002:

Some people say zinc helps, but it never did anything for me. But I have had luck with this:

1) Drink a healthy amount of liquids (NOT soda or coffee).
2) If you can, eat chicken noodle soup. It has anti-inflammatory properties that help with colds.
3) Try to stay off meds during the day, but take whatever it takes to sleep 8+ hours. (I use NyQuil.)
4) This is important: Sleep on the side of your pillow with your face facing downwards. You'll feel the mucus from your nose drip (or sometimes run) out of your nose onto your pillow and, magically, your nasal passages will open.  If you don't do that, the mucus drips down your throat, irritating it and giving you a cough.

If you only do one thing, do step 4 - my family cuts our colds in half with that one step.
