Extreme dry mouth, worried about Sjogrens...
« on: March 13, 2013, 10:07:21 AM »
Hey everyone, I'm a 22 year old male, not on any medication.

lately I've been getting a very dry mouth. I keep drinking water but the feeling of dry mouth won't leave. I'm going to go to the er today and get some blood tests bu i was just wondering if anyone is going through the same thing?

My nose is stuffed, I think maybe do to allergies? or maybe my sinuses are also very dry. I'm very worried about the autoimmune disease Sjogrens syndrome, it causes your eyes and mouth and nose to dry up. The only thing is, I'm not in a risk factor for that disease because I'm a young male and it mostly happens to women from ages 40 - onwards.

Gahhh, i just want my mouth to not be dry :(

If you had it, you'd KNOW it. My sisters friend has it and it's not just being dry... it's DESERT dry. Cracked lips, cracked up in the nose, etc. Get a humidifer and some allergy meds.

I hope you're right... this thread will likely get buried. I'm just really freaked out right now. I know it has to be Sjogren’s... i just don't fit the typical bill but why is my mouth so damn dry? I'm worried about drinking too much water to my moth feeling normal. water intoxication is lethal.

Drinking too much water can make your mouth dry, too. It depletes the sodium in your system and dries you out. Allergies and mouthbreathing at night are also common culprits.

(I second hypomom's comment... I'm going to break a small rule and tell you to Google the words tongue + sjogren's, and then look at the images... I doubt your tongue looks like that.)

As much as I discourage google, I agree with Slangevar! It is not a "my mouth FEELS dry" thing. It's REALLY dry. Literally. The mouth/tongue have NO liquid. Like dried beef jerky. If you've had your blood sugar checked and aren't diabetic, i'd def. do the humidifier and allergy meds. I don't think you should go to the ER for this as it's not a life threatening emergency but call your doctor and make an  appointment.

I have dry mouth too AND am a 40+ year old woman so I was doubly anxious about Sjogrens.  However, I found relief with Biotene.  It is an oral rinse that you can buy at Target, WalMart.  My guess is that your symptoms will go away once you use it.  Dry mouth can be caused by so many things...allergies for me ( made me sleep with my mouth open due to congestion and I wasn't even aware of it...dried out my mouth big time)

Good luck!
