Very paranoid about birth control issues
« on: March 12, 2013, 12:41:02 PM »
So, about a month ago I started the birth control, Azurette right after I got my period. Well, I was experiencing a negative effect from it after only 5 days so I stopped taking it. Because my hormones were messed up, I got another period that very next week. It's been a month now and my breasts have been unbearably sore, and my period is 7 days late (from my first period I had when I started taking the birth control). I'm worried because I don't know which period I should go by to determine my next one. The one that happened the first week or the one that happened the second week? I've never been sexually active so I'm sure I cannot be pregnant. My boyfriend and I are active in other ways so I hope that shouldn't have an effect on this. Should I be concerned, or is my period eventually on its way?

It can take a while for your body to adjust to birth control pills.  I had a lot of breast soreness when I started them (now, keep in mind, this was 26 years ago) and switched to another brand, which was better (lower dose).  Were there other side effects in the 5 days?  That seems kinda fast for anything much to happen.

You should go by the second period to determine when the next one will be.... so I don't think you are actually late.

The side effect I had on the 5th day was pain and weakness in my left arm. Along with my prescription it said if this occurred that I should stop taking it immediately, so that's what I did! My doctor claimed that it was nothing but it still concerned me. He told me I could start taking my birth control again once I got my period, but I wasn't sure which one I was supposed to go by. Now it makes more sense that I would go by the second one. So hopefully this week I will get it. If not, then I may start worrying again...

You are not pregnant. If you body had 2 periods in one month, then of course you're going to be late...your body hasn't had as much time to build up the uteran lining (which is what your body expels). You're supposed to take your first BC pill on the first day of your period (or Sunday after) so just wait til then, don't worry about the math. If you haven't had sex (and there's been no fluid exchange), you can't be pregnant. Take a deep breath! It'll all be ok! And next time, if you experience negative symptoms, call your doctor before doing anything. If you keep going on and off BC, you could mess up your hormones, so be careful, but don't freak out! It would take a lot to do any serious damage!

It'll all be ok! Your doctor knows what's best! Rely on him/her to take care of you and your body in this aspect.
